Benzyl (E)-3-(2-methyl-benzyl-idene)dithio-carbazate.

Project description:The title compound, C(16)H(16)N(2)S(2), was obtained from the condensation reaction of benzyl dithio-carbazate and 2-methyl-benzaldehyde. The asymmetric unit contains two independent mol-ecules. In both mol-ecules, the methyl-phenyl ring and the dithio-carbazate fragment are located on opposite sides of the C=N bond, showing an E conformation. In each mol-ecule, the dithio-carbazate fragment is approximately planar, the r.m.s deviations being 0.018 and 0.025 Å. The mean plane of dithio-carbazate group is oriented at dihedral angles of 7.9 (3) and 68.24 (12)°, respectively, to the methyl-phenyl and phenyl rings in one mol-ecule, while the corresponding angles in the other mol-ecule are 10.9 (3) and 69.76 (16)°. Inter-molecular N-H⋯S hydrogen bonding occurs in the crystal structure to generate inversion dimers for both molecules.

In the crystal, the cations are connected to the anions by N-H⋯O and N-H⋯(O,O) hydrogen bonds, generating a layered network parallel to (100). A weak C-H⋯O inter-action also occurs.

Project description:In the title salt, C(11)H(13)N(2) (+)·C(6)H(2)N(3)O(7) (-), the dihedral angles between the benzene ring in the cation and the imidazolium ring and the benzene ring of the picrate anion are 113.7 (2) and 116.3 (2)°, respectively. The imidazolium ring is nearly parallel to the benzene ring of the picrate anion, the dihedral angle between the planes being 2.6 (1)°. The nitro groups in the picrate anions are disordered (occupancy ratio 0.54:0.46). The crystal packing is stabilized by weak C-H⋯O inter-actions between the cation-anion pairs.

Project description:The title compound, (BenzMIm)Br (BenzMIm=1-benzyl-3-methyl-imidazo-l-ium), C11H13N2 +·Br-, was obtained as single crystals directly from a pure and liquid sample of the compound over several weeks. The mol-ecular structure of (BenzMIm)Br consists of separated bromide anions and 1-benzyl-3-methyl-imidazolium cations connected via short C-H⋯Br contacts. The compound exhibits a relatively low melting point (m.p. = 72°C) and is a supercooled, highly viscous transparent liquid at ambient conditions. The title compound crystallizes with two unique ion pairs in the asymmetric unit of the orthorhombic unit cell.
