Bis[4'-(4-cyano-phen-yl)-2,2':6',2''-terpyridine]cobalt(II) dichloride.

ABSTRACT: The title complex, [Co(C(22)H(14)N(4))(2)]Cl(2), has been synthesized by a solvothermal reaction of the 4'-(4-cyano-phen-yl)-2,2':6',2''-terpyridine ligand with CoCl(2)·6H(2)O. The cobalt(II) ion is six-coordinated by two tridentate ligands in a distorted octa-hedral geometry. The benzene rings form dihedral angles of 30.02?(7) and 30.26?(7)° with the mean planes of the terpyridine ring systems. The chloride anions are statistically disordered over two positions with refined site occupancies of 0.601?(2) and 0.399?(2).

In each cation, the Co(II) cation is coordinated by four N atoms from two biimidazole and two O atoms of two water mol-ecules; one Co atom is at a position of site symmetry m, the other at a position of site symmetry 2/m. All Cl(-) ions and water mol-ecules are also located on the mirror plane. Each structural unit is connected through O-H?Cl and N-H?Cl inter-molecular hydrogen bonds, forming a three-dimensional supramolecular structure.

Project description:The title complex, [Co(C(15)H(11)N(3))(2)](C(4)N(3))(2), is built up from discrete [Co(terpy)(2)](2+) cations (terpy is 2,2':6',2''-terpyridine) and [C(CN)(3)](-) anions. In the cation, the Co(II) atom is coordinated by two terpy mol-ecules, giving a distorted octa-hedral geometry. The tricyano-methanide anions are not directly coordinated to the Co(II) atom, but some weak C-H⋯N hydrogen bonds involving the terminal N atoms of the tricyaomethanide ions and the terpyridine H atoms link anions and cations building a three-dimensional network.

The Pt atom is four-coordinated by a tridentate chelating 2,2':6',2''-terpyridine ligand and a chloride ion in a square-planar geometry with modest distortion imposed by the constraint of the terpyridyl ligand. Project description:In the title hydrated complex, [Co(C15H10ClN3)2]Cl2·4H2O, the complete dication is generated by symmetry. The CoN6 moiety shows distortion from regular octa-hedral geometry with the trans bond angles of two N-Co-N units being 160.62?(9)°. In the crystal, O-H?Cl and C-H?O inter-actions link the components into (001) sheets. The title compound exhibits blue-light emission, as indicated by photoluminescence data, and a HOMO-LUMO energy separation of 2.23?eV was obtained from its diffuse reflectance spectrum.

Project description:In the title mononuclear copper(II) complex, [Cu(C(14)H(9)N(2)O)(2)], the Cu(II) atom, situated on an inversion centre, shows a slightly distorted square-planar geometry and is coordinated by the N and O atoms from two deprotonated symmetry-related Schiff base ligands. Project description:In the binuclear title complex, [Ag(2)(C(31)H(22)N(4)O)(2)](ClO(4))(2)·2C(3)H(7)NO, the Ag(I) atom is penta-coordinated by three N atoms from the tridentate chelating terpyridyl group and by one N atom and one O atom from the quinolin-8-yl-oxy group in a distorted square-pyramidal geometry with the O atom at the apical position. The centrosymmetric complex cation involves intra-molecular ?-? stacking inter-actions [centroid-centroid distance = 3.862?(4)?Å] between the central pyridine and benzene rings. In the crystal structure, inter-molecular C-H?O hydrogen bonds result in the formation of a supra-molecular network.
