Catena-Poly[[[aqua-silver(I)]-μ-1,1'-(butane-1,4-di-yl)di-1H-imidazole-κN:N] hemi(biphenyl-4,4'-dicarboxyl-ate) dihydrate].

ABSTRACT: In the title compound, {[Ag(C(10)H(14)N(4))(H(2)O)](C(14)H(8)O(4))(0.5)·2H(2)O}(n), the Ag(I) ion is three-coordinated by two N atoms from two independent 1,1'-(butane-1,4-di-yl)di-1H-imidazole (BBI) ligands and one water O atom in a distorted T-shaped coordination geometry. The biphenyl-4,4'-dicarboxyl-ate (BPDC) dianions do not coordinate to Ag(I) ions but act as counter-ions. The Ag(I) ions are linked by BBI ligands, forming a zigzag chain. These chains are linked into a two-dimensional supra-molecular architecture by O-H⋯O hydrogen-bonding inter-actions between water mol-ecules and carboxyl-ate O atoms of the BPDC dianions.

Project description:In the title coordination polymer, {[Zn(C(9)H(7)NO(4))(C(10)H(14)N(4))]·2H(2)O}(n), the Zn(II) ion displays a distorted tetra-hedral geometry with two imidazole N atoms from two 1,1'-(butane-1,4-di-yl)bis-(imidazole) (bbi) ligands and two carboxyl-ate O atoms from two 2,6-dimethyl-pyridine-3,5-dicarboxyl-ate (dpdc) ligands. The bbi and dpdc ligands bridge the Zn(II) ions, forming layers parallel to (011). O-H?O and O-H?N hydrogen bonds and ?-? inter-actions between the imidazole rings [centroid-centroid distance = 3.807?(5)?Å] connect the layers. Two of the three uncoordinated water mol-ecules are disordered, each over two 0.25-occupancy positions.

Project description:The title one-dimensional coordination polymer, [ZnCl(2)(C(10)H(14)N(4))](n), was synthesized by hydro-thermal methods from ZnCl(2) and 1,1'-(butane-1,4-di-yl)diimidazole. The Zn atom is coordinated by two chloride ions and two N atoms from two symmetry-independent organic ligands and shows a distorted tetra-hedral coordination geometry. The 1,1'-(butane-1,4-di-yl)diimidazole ligands are located around two sets of inversion centers and bridge Zn(II) ions, forming a zigzag polymeric chain. C-H?Cl hydrogen bonding results in the formation of a three-dimensional supra-molecular network.

There is a C4 water chain in the structure whose repeat unit contains four water mol-ecules with O⋯O distances in the range 2.748 (3)-2.795 (4) Å. Each 1,1'-(1,4-butane-1,4-di-yl)diimidazole ligand coordinates to two Mn(II) atoms located in adjacent layers via Mn-N coordination bonds, giving a three-dimensional network. As the methyl-ene groups can bend freely relative to each other due to the C atoms connected via single bonds, the 1,1'-(butane-1,4-di-yl)diimidazole ligand forms an S-shaped conformation, which makes the void in the three-dimensional network distorted.

The Cu-O bond distance in the apical direction is 0.509?(3)?Å longer than the mean Cu-O bond distance in the basal plane. The naph dianion bridges two Cu(II) cations, forming a one-dimensional polymeric chain. The coordinated water mol-ecule is hydrogen-bonded to the carboxylate groups and imidazole ligands of adjacent polymeric chains, forming a three-dimensional supra-molecular structure. No ?-? stacking is observed in the crystal structure. One solvent water molecule is disordered equally over two positions.

Bridging by the ligands results in a ribbon structure. Adjacent ribbons are linked to the nitrate anions via O-H?O hydrogen bonds, forming layers. One nitrate O atom is disordered equally over two positions.
