ABSTRACT: The title binuclear complex, [Co(2)(C(8)H(3)NO(6))(2)(C(10)H(8)N(2))(3)(H(2)O)(6)], has been synthesized hydro-thermally from 3-nitro-phthalic acid (H(2)NPA), Co(NO(3))(2)·6H(2)O and 4,4'-bipyridine (4,4'-bipy). The mol-ecule of the complex occupies a special position on an inversion centre. The Co(II) atom has a slightly distorted octa-hedral environment formed by two N atoms from two 4,4'-bipy ligands, one carboxyl-ate O atom from NPA, and three O atoms of water mol-ecules. An extensive O-H?O and N-H?O hydrogen-bonding system links mol-ecules of the complex into a three-dimensional network.

Project description:The hydro-thermal reaction of cobalt nitrate with 4,4'-bipyridine and 3-nitro-benzoic acid lead to the formation of the title complex, [Co(C(7)H(4)NO(4))(2)(C(10)H(8)N(2))(2)](n). In the crystal structure, the Co(II) atoms are coordinated by two terminal carboxyl-ate anions and four 4,4'-bipyridine ligands within slightly distorted octa-hedra. The Co(II) atom and one of the two independent 4,4'-bipyridine ligands are located on a twofold rotation axis, while the second independent 4,4'-bipyridine mol-ecule is located on a centre of inversion. One of the two rings of one 4,4'-bipyridine ligand is disordered over two orientations and was refined using a split model [occupancy ratio 0.68?(2):0.32?(2)]. The Co(II) atoms are connected by the 4,4'-bipyridine ligands into layers, which are located parallel to the ab plane.

The chains are separated by 4,4'-bipyridine and water solvent mol-ecules. Within a chain, the Mn(II) atom is six-coordinated by two N atoms of the bridging 4,4'-bipyridine ligands, three water O atoms and one carboxyl-ate O atom of a single deprotonated 3-(4-carb-oxy-phen-oxy)phthalic acid ligand. Project description:The title complex mol-ecule, [Zn(2)(C(7)H(3)NO(5))(2)(H(2)O)(6)], is a centrosymmetric dimer containing two zinc(II) cations with distorted octa-hedral geometries provided by the O atoms of three water mol-ecules and the two bridging bidentate 5-nitro-salicylate ligands. The separation between the metal centres in the dimer is 3.1790?(11)?Å. The crystal structure is stabilized by O-H?O hydrogen bonds, one of which intra-dimeric, linking the dimers into a three-dimensional network.
