ABSTRACT: The asymmetric unit of the title compound, [Zn(C(12)H(12)N(2))(H(2)O)(4)]SO(4), consists of a Zn(II) complex cation, a sulfate anion and four mol-ecules of water coordinated to the Zn(II) atom. The Zn(II) complex cation, with approximate twofold symmetry, displays a slightly distorted octa-hedral geometry around the Zn(II) atom, which is coordinated by two N atoms from a 5,5'-dimethyl-2,2'-bipyridine ligand and by the O atoms of four water mol-ecules. In the crystal, O-H?O hydrogen bonds help to establish the packing.

Project description:In the title compound, [Ni(C(12)H(6)N(2)O(4))(H(2)O)(4)]·2H(2)O, obtained from a basic solution of 2,2'-bipyridine-5,5'-dicarboxyl-ate and nickel(II) chloride in water, the central Ni(II) cation (site symmetry 2) is coordinated by two N atoms from the 2,2'-bipyridine-5,5'-dicarboxyl-ate ligand and four aqua O atoms. The N-Ni-N angle is 78.64?(8)°. Weak but significant ?-? stacking inter-actions exist between the pyridine rings with a centroid-centroid distance of 3.652?(8)?Å. In addition, four O atoms of the two carboxyl groups form hydrogen bonds with both coordinated and uncoordinated water mol-ecules, forming an infinite three-dimensional network.

Project description:In the title compound, [Cu(C(14)H(8)O(5))(C(12)H(12)N(2))(H(2)O)](n), the Cu(II) ion is penta-coordinated in a square-pyramidal geometry. Two N atoms of the chelating 5,5'-dimethyl-2,2'-bipyridine (dbp) ligand and two O atoms of two different 2,2'-oxydibenzoic (odb) ligands occupy the basal plane while the water O atom completes the square-pyramidal geometry at the apical site. The non-water N(2)O(2) donor atoms are nearly coplanar, with a mean deviation from the least-squares plane of 0.0518?(11)?Å and the Cu atom is displaced by 0.1507?(11)?Å from this plane towards the apical water O atom. Further coordination via the 2,2'-oxydibenzoate anions forms a one-dimensional coordination polymer extending parallel to [010]. In the crystal structure, O-H?O hydrogen bonds link the mol-ecules into a two-dimensional supra-molecular structure.

Project description:In the title compound, [Fe(C12H12N2)(H2O)4]SO4, the central Fe(II) ion is coordinated by two N atoms from the 5,5'-dimethyl-2,2'-bi-pyridine ligand and four water O atoms in a distorted octa-hedral geometry. The Fe-O coordination bond lengths vary from 2.080?(3) to 2.110?(3)?Å, while the two Fe-N coordination bonds have practically identical lengths [2.175?(3) and 2.177?(3)?Å]. The chelating N-Fe-N angle of 75.6?(1)° shows the largest deviation from an ideal octa-hedral geometry; the other coordination angles deviate from ideal values by 0.1?(1) to 9.1?(1)°. O-H?O hydrogen bonding between the four aqua ligands of the cationic complex and four O-atom acceptors of the anion leads to the formation of layers parallel to the ab plane. Neighbouring layers further inter-act by means of C-H?O and ?-? inter-actions involving the laterally positioned bi-pyridine rings. The perpen-dicular distance between ?-? inter-acting rings is 3.365?(2)?Å, with a centroid-centroid distance of 3.702?(3)?Å.

Project description:The crystal structure of the title salt, [Mn(C(10)H(8)N(2))(H(2)O)(4)][Mn(2)(C(8)H(3)O(7)S)(2)(C(10)H(8)N(2))(2)(H(2)O)(4)]·4H(2)O, consists of mononuclear manganese(II) cations, dinuclear manganate(II) dianions and uncoordinated water mol-ecules. The dianion is located about an inversion center; the Mn(II) atom is coordinated by a 2,2'-bipyridine ligand, a sulfonatoisophthalate group, a water mol-ecule along with two bridging water mol-ecules in an octa-hedral geometry. The cation lies on a twofold rotation axis; the Mn(II) atom is coordinated by four water mol-ecules and a chelating 2,2'-bipyridine ligand in a distorted octa-hedral geometry. A partially overlapped arrangement between the bipyridine ligands and the aromatic ring of the sulfoisophthalate group of adjacent anions is observed; the distance (3.357 Å) indicates π-π stacking. Hydrogen bonds, with the water mol-ecules serving as hydrogen-bond donors, lead to a three-dimensional network architecture.

Project description:The metal site in the title compound [MnCl(2)(C(12)H(12)N(2))(2)]·2.5H(2)O has a distorted octa-hedral geometry, coordinated by four N atoms of two 5,5'-dimethyl-2,2'-dipyridine ligands and two Cl atoms. Two and a half water molecules of hydration per complex unit are observed in the crystal structure. The compounds extend along the c axis with O-H?Cl, O-H?O, C-H?Cl and C-H?O hydrogen bonds and ?-? inter-actions [centroid-centroid distance = 3.70?(2)?Å] contributing substanti-ally to the crystal packing. The Mn and one of the water O atoms, the latter being half-occupied, are located on special positions, in this case a rotation axis of order 2.
