Dichlorido{2-[(4-iodo-phen-yl)imino-meth-yl]pyridine-?N,N'}copper(II).

ABSTRACT: The Cu(II) atom in the title complex, [CuCl(2)(C(12)H(9)IN(2))], has a square-planar coordination being N,N'-chelated by the Schiff base ligand, and by two Cl atoms. The geometry is distorted towards square pyramidal owing to a long Cu?Cl inter-action of 2.941?(1)?Å. This results in the formation of a zigzag chain structure propagating in the c-axis direction.

The chelate ring including the Cu(II) atom is approximately planar, with a maximum deviation of 0.039?(4)?Å for one of the C atoms; this plane forms a dihedral angle of 46.69?(9)° with the CuCl(2) plane.

With the exception of the Br atoms, all other atoms are disordered over two sets of sites corresponding to a 180° rotation of the mol-ecule along [[Formula: see text]02].
