Imidazolium 3-nitro-benzoate.

ABSTRACT: In the title compound, C(3)H(5)N(2) (+)·C(7)H(4)NO(4) (-), the benzene ring forms a dihedral angle of 40.60?(5)° with the imidizolium ring. The nitro-benzoate anion is approximately planar: the benzene ring makes dihedral angles of 3.8?(3) and 3.2?(1)° with the nitro and carboxyl-ate groups, respectively. In the crystal structure, the cations and anions are linked by inter-molecular N-H?O hydrogen bonds, forming a zigzag chain along the b axis.

There are N-H⋯O hydrogen-bonding inter-actions between the anion and cation, and weak inter-molecular C-H⋯O contacts with carboxyl-ate O-atom acceptors of the 4-amino-benzoate anion result in extended three-dimensional R(4) (4)(22) and R(5) (6)(30) edge-fused rings along the [100], [010] and [001] directions.

Project description:In the mol-ecule of the title compound, C(10)H(11)NO(4), the nitro group is approximately coplanar with the benzene ring [dihedral angle = 4.57?(10)°], while the carboxyl-ate group is slightly twisted, making an angle of 12.16?(8)°. Further peripheral associations include a cyclic R(1) (2)(4) cation-anion inter-action, forming inter-linked undulating sheets in the three-dimensional structure.

1-Methyl-5-nitro-imidazolium chloride.

Project description:The title salt, C4H6N3O2 +·Cl-, exhibits multiple hydrogen-bonding inter-actions involving the nitro-imidazolium cation and the chloride anion. Strong hydrogen bonds between the amine hydrogen atom and the chloride anion link the ionic moieties. Of note, with respect to H⋯Cl inter-actions, the central aromatic hydrogen atom displays a shorter inter-action than the other aromatic hydrogen atom. Finally, inter-actions are observed between the nitro moiety and methyl H atoms. While no π-π stacking is observed, anion-π inter-actions are present. The crystal was refined as a two-component twin.

The mean plane of the central ester group, C-O-C-(=O)-C (r.m.s. deviation = 0.0484?Å), is twisted away from the formyl nitro aryl and benzoate rings by 46.61?(5) and 49.93?(5)°, respectively. In the crystal, the mol-ecules are packed forming C-H?O inter-actions in chains which propagate along [010]. Edge-fused R (3) 3(15) rings are generated along this direction.

Pyridinium 3-nitro-benzoate-3-nitro-benzoic acid (1/1).

Project description:The crystal structure of the product of the neutralization reaction between 3-nitro-benzoic acid and pyridine is reported. The entities that crystallized are a pyridinium cation, a 3-nitrobenzoate anion and a 3-nitrobenzoic acid molecule in a 1:1:1 molar ratio, C5H6N+·C7H4NO4 -·C7H5NO4. Distinct sets of hydrogen bonds link the pyridinium and benzoate ions (N-H⋯O) and the acid and benzoate moieties (O-H⋯O). The hydrogen bonding along with π-π stacking between the acid and benzoate moieties accounts for the long-range ordering of the crystal.
