ABSTRACT: In the title centrosymmetric dinuclear Eu(III) complex, [Eu(2)(CH(3)COO)(6)(C(12)H(8)N(2))(2)], each Eu(III) cation is coordinated by seven O atoms from five acetate anions and two N atoms from one phenanthroline ligand in a distorted tricapped trigonal-prismatic geometry. Four acetate anions bridge two Eu(III) cations to form the dinuclear complex, with an Eu?Eu distance of 3.9409?(8)?Å. Weak inter-molecular C-H?O hydrogen bonding is present in the crystal structure.

Project description:In the title compound, [EuSm(C(12)H(9)O(2))(6)(C(12)H(8)N(2))(2)], the metal site is statistically occupied (50:50) by Eu and Sm atoms, forming a centrosymmetric complex. The metal site is nine-coordinate, in a distorted monocapped square-anti-prismatic coordination geometry. Mol-ecules are linked into three chains by C-H⋯π interactions and C-H⋯O hydrogen bonds. The combination of these chains generates a three-dimensional framework structure. One of the bridging naphthalene-1-ace-tate ligands was found to be disordered over two sites; the site occupancies for the naphthylmethyl group refined to 0.628 (14) and 0.372 (14).

Eu separation of 4.1594?(4)?Å. The remaining coordination sites are occupied by two N atoms from one 1,10-phenanthroline (phen) and two O atoms from an L ligand. The six 6-hydr-oxy-1-naphthoate groups coordinate each Eu(III) atom in three different ways, namely ?(2)-?(1):?(1)-bridging, ?(1)-?(1):?(1)-chelating, and ?(2)-?(1):?(2)-chelating/bridging modes. Adjacent discrete dinuclear units are linked into a two-dimensional sheet parallel to (011) by inter-molecular O-H?O hydrogen-bonding inter-actions. Intra-molecular O-H?O hydrogen bonds are observed in the DHB ligands.
