ABSTRACT: In the crystal structure of the title compound, {[MnNa(C(6)H(4)NO(3))(3)]·H(2)O}(n), the Mn(II) cation is located on a threefold rotation axis and is chelated by three 2-oxidopyridinium-3-carboxyl-ate (opc) anions in an octa-hedal coordination. The Na(I) cation is located on a threefold rotation axis and is surrounded by six O atoms from three opc anions. The opc anions link the Mn and Na cations, forming a three-dimensional polymeric structure. The uncoordinated water mol-ecule, located on a threefold rotation axis, is equally disordered over two sites. The three-dimensional network is consolidated by N-H?O hydrogen bonds.

Project description:The centrosymmetric binuclear title complex, [Mn(2)(C(8)H(5)NO(5))(2)(C(12)H(8)N(2))(2)(H(2)O)(4)]·2H(2)O, was obtained by the reaction of manganese chloride with 5-carb-oxy-1-carboxy-methyl-2-oxidopyridinium and 1,10-phenanthroline. The Mn(II) atom is coordinated by two N atoms from the 1,10-phenanthroline ligand, two O atoms from two 5-carboxyl-ato-1-carboxyl-atomethyl-2-oxidopyridinium ligands and two water mol-ecules, leading to a distorted octahedral MnN(2)O(4) environment. Inter-molecular O-H⋯O hydrogen bonds link neighbouring mol-ecules into a layer structure parallel to (001).

Project description:The asymmetric unit of the title compound, {[Co(3)(C(8)H(4)O(4))(3)(H(2)O)]·CH(3)OH·H(2)O}(n), consists of four crystallographically independent Co cations, four benzene-1,4-dicarboxyl-ate (bdc) anions, two water and one methanol solvent mol-ecule. Two of the Co cations and two of the bdc anions are located on centres of inversion, whereas all other atoms are located in general positions. In the crystal, two Co atoms are only fourfold coordinated by three O atoms from three bdc ligands and by one O atom from one coordinated water mol-ecule, while a third Co atom is coordinated by four O atoms from four bdc ligands within a strongly distorted tetra-hedral geometry. The other two Co cations are octa-hedrally coordinated by six O atoms from six bdc anions. The Co cations are linked by the bdc anions into a three-dimensional framework. From this arrangement, cavities are formed in which additional methanol and water mol-ecules are embedded.

The bridging dianion leads to [001] chains in the crystal. The C-O bond distance of 1.2573?(19)?Å found for the non-coordinating O atom of the carboxyl-ate group indicates significant delocalization of ?-electron density over this residue. Similarly, the C-O bond distance of 1.260?(2)?Å in the heteroaromatic ring indicates delocalization between the deprotonated hydr-oxy group and the pyridinium ring. The uncoordinated carboxyl-ate O atom links with the imidazole and pyridinium rings of adjacent mol-ecules via N-H?O and C-H?O hydrogen bonding, leading to a two-dimensional array parallel to (100).

The shorter C-O bond distance of 1.260?(2)?Å suggests electron delocalization between the oxido group and the pyridinium ring. The uncoordinated carboxyl-ate O atom links with the imidazole and pyridinium rings of adjacent mol-ecules via N-H?O hydrogen bonding. Weak C-H?O hydrogen bonding is also present in the crystal structure.

The coordination environment of the Mn(II) atom is a distorted MnN?O? octa-hedron defined by two N atoms from 1,10-phenanthroline, two water O atoms and two carboxyl-ate O atoms from two acrylate anions. The bis-monodentate coordination mode of the anion leads to the formation of chains propagating in [010]. Inter-molecular O-H?O hydrogen bonds link the chains into a two-dimensional network parallel to (100). In the voids of this arrangement, disordered lattice water mol-ecules are present.
