1,4,5,8-Tetra-n-butyl-anthracene.

ABSTRACT: The mol-ecule of the title compound, C(30)H(42), occupies a special position on an inversion center. The four butyl side chains have all-trans planar conformations, and the alkyl planes are nearly orthogonal to the anthracene plane [C-C-C-C torsion angles of 79.6?(2) and 78.2?(2)°]. The overall mol-ecule has a stair-like shape with the n-butyl groups at the 1 and 8 positions extending towards the same side of the anthracene plane. In the crystal structure, mol-ecules adopt a slipped-parallel arrangement without ?-? stacking.

The two methyl groups in each independent isopropyl group are oriented on either side of the anthracene plane. In the crystal structure, the mol-ecules adopt a herringbone-like arrangement without π-π stacking.

Project description:The title complex, [Mn(2)(C(18)H(4)O(10))(H(2)O)(4)](n), was synthesized from manganese(II) chloride tetra-hydrate and 9,10-dioxo-9,10-dihydro-anthracene-1,4,5,8-tetra-carb-oxy-lic acid (H(4)AQTC) in water. The anthraquinone unit is located about a crystallographic center of inversion. Each asymmetric unit therefore contains one Mn(II) atom, two water ligands and one half AQTC(4-) anion. The Mn(II) atom is coordinated in a distorted octa-hedral geometry by four O atoms from three AQTC(4-) ligands and two water O atoms. Two of the carboxyl-ate groups coordinate one Mn(II) atom in a chelating mode, whereas the others each coordinate two Mn(II) atoms. Each AQTC(4-) tetra-anion therefore coordinates six different Mn(II) ions and, as a result, a three-dimensional coordination polymer is formed. O-H?O hydrogen bonds, some of them bifurcated, between water ligands and neighboring water or anthraquinone ligands are observed in the crystal structure.

Project description:In the crystal of the title polymeric complex, [Ni(2)(C(18)H(4)O(10))(C(10)H(8)N(2))(H(2)O)(8)](n), each Ni(II) cation is coord-in-ated by four water mol-ecules in the equatorial plane, and is further bridged by an 9,10-dioxo-9,10-dihydro-anthracene-1,4,5,8-tetra-carb-oxy-l-ate anion and a 4,4'-bipyridine ligand in the axial directions, forming a distorted octa-hedral geometry. The 9,10-dioxo-9,10-dihydro-anthracene-1,4,5,8-tetra-carboxyl-ate anion is centrosymmetric with the centroid of the quinone ring located about an inversion center; the 4,4'-bipyridine ligand is also centrosymmetric with the mid-point of the C-C bond linking two pyridine rings located about another invertion center. The 9,10-dioxo-9,10-dihydro-anthracene-1,4,5,8-tetra-carboxyl-ate anion and bypiridine ligand bridge the Ni(II) cations, forming a polymeric chain along the b axis. ?-? stacking is observed between pyridine and benzene rings [centroid-centroid distance = 3.705?(2)?Å]. All of the coordinating water mol-ecules are involved in O-H?O hydrogen bonding.

Project description:The asymmetric unit of the title compound, C14H6O4, contains three independent mol-ecules (A, B and C). In mol-ecule C, there are two disordered sets of two carbonyl O atoms [occupancies = 0.643?(11) and 0.357?(11)]. All three mol-ecules are non-planar due to repulsion between two O atoms in peri positions on the anthracene ring, showing a slight difference in deviation of the carbonyl O atoms. The intra-molecular distances between the two nearest O atoms are in the range of 2.685?(10)-2.766?(10)?Å. In the crystal, mol-ecules are linked by C-H?O and ?-? [centroid-centroid distances = 3.615?(2), 3.844?(2) and 3.921?(2)?Å] inter-actions, which lead to the formation of a herringbone-like arrangement.

Project description:The title mol-ecule, C(14)H(14)O(3), contains two fused six-membered carbon rings with keto groups at positions 1, 4 and 5 and a gem-diethyl group at position 8. The solvent water mol-ecules are connected to the carboxyl-ate groups by O-H?O hydrogen bonds. Additional weak C-H?O hydrogen bonds are observed in the crystal structure.
