Project description:The asymmetric unit of the title compound, C(23)H(15)N(3)S, contains two crystallographically independent mol-ecules. The pyridine rings adopt envelope conformations. The thio-phene rings are oriented at dihedral angles of 77.97?(4)/53.53?(4) and 78.44?(4)/57.11?(4)° with respect to the phenyl rings, while the dihedral angles between the phenyl rings are 48.51?(4) and 44.49?(4)°. In the crystal structure, inter-molecular N-H?N hydrogen bonds link the mol-ecules into chains along the c axis. The S, C and H atoms of one of the thio-phene rings are disordered over two orientations, with occupancy ratios of 0.314?(15):0.686?(15).

Project description:The title compound, C(9)H(9)N(5), is slightly twisted from planarity, with a maximum deviation of 0.0285 (13) Å from the pyridine plane for the C atom bearing the amino group. The cyano groups are on different sides of the pyridine plane, with C- and N-atom deviations of 0.072 (3)/0.124 (4) and -0.228 (4)/-0.409 (5) Å from the pyridine plane. In the crystal, N-H⋯N and C-H⋯N hydrogen bonds connect the mol-ecules into zigzag chains running along the c axis.

Project description:The asymmetric unit of the title compound, C(5)H(2)Cl(2)N(2)O(2), consists of two crystallographically independent mol-ecules. The pyridine ring in each mol-ecule is essentially planar, with maximum deviations of 0.004?(4) and 0.007?(4)?Å. Short Cl?O [3.09?(3) and 3.13?(4)?Å] and Cl?Cl [3.38?(12)?Å] contacts were observed. Project description:In the title compound, C(17)H(17)Cl(2)NO(2), the central 1,4-dihydro-pyridine ring adopts a flattened-boat conformation. The ethanone substituents of the dihydro-pyridine ring at positions 3 and 5 have synperiplanar (cis) or anti-periplanar (trans) conformations with respect to the adjacent C=C bonds in the dihydro-pyridine ring. The 2,4-dichloro-phenyl ring is almost planar [r.m.s. deviation = 0.0045 (1) Å] and almost perpendicular [89.27 (3)°] to the mean plane of the dihydro-pyridine ring. In the crystal, an N-H⋯O hydrogen bond links mol-ecules into a zigzag chain along the ac diagonal. C-H⋯Cl contacts form centrosymmetric dimers and additional weak C-H⋯O contacts further consolidate the packing.

Aromatic systems with two and three pyridine-2,6-dicarbazolyl-3,5-dicarbonitrile fragments as electron-transporting organic semiconductors exhibiting long-lived emissions.

Project description:The pyridine-3,5-dicarbonitrile moiety has gained significant attention in the field of materials chemistry, particularly in the development of heavy-metal-free pure organic light-emitting diodes (OLEDs). Extensive research on organic compounds exhibiting thermally activated delayed fluorescence (TADF) has led to numerous patents and research articles. This study focuses on the synthesis and investigation of the semiconducting properties of polyaromatic π-systems containing two and three fragments of pyridine-2,6-dicarbazolyl-3,5-dicarbonitrile. The compounds are synthesized by Sonogashira coupling reactions and characterized by steady-state and time-resolved luminescence spectroscopy. The compounds show efficient intramolecular charge transfer (ICT) from the donor to the acceptor. The photoluminescence (PL) spectra of the solutions of the compounds showed non-structured emission peaks in the visible region, which are attributed to ICT emission. The PL intensities of the solutions of the compounds are enhanced after deoxygenation, which is indicative of TADF. The photoluminescence quantum yields and TADF properties of the compounds are sensitive to the medium. Cyclic voltammetry measurements indicate good hole-blocking and electron-injecting properties due to their high ionization potentials. Photoelectron spectroscopy and time-of-flight measurements reveal good electron-transporting properties for one of the compounds. In general, polyaromatic π-systems with pyridine-3,5-dicarbonitrile fragments demonstrate promising potential for use in organic electronic devices, such as OLEDs.

In the crystal, the molecules are linked by aromatic π-π stacking [centroid-centroid separations = 3.4984 (16) and 3.9641 (15) Å between pyrrole and pyridine rings and between pyridine rings, respectively].
