ABSTRACT: The title compound, C(14)H(15)ClN(2)O, contains an eight-membered 5,5-fused bicycle with two substituents. The dihedral angle between the nearly planar eight-membered ring [maximum deviation = 0.033?(2)?Å] and the benzene ring is 25.0?(1)°. In the crystal structure, mol-ecules are stacked in columns along the b axis and C-H?? inter-actions are observed between the columns.

In one independent mol-ecule, the two flanking aromatic rings are twisted by 24.4?(1)° and the ring of the chloro-phenyl substituent is twisted by 87.3?(1)° relative to the amino- and cyano-bearing aromatic ring. In the second mol-ecule, the respective dihedral angles are 26.1?(1) and 57.8?(1)°. The two independent mol-ecules are linked by N-H?N hydrogen bonds into dimers.
