ABSTRACT: In the title compound, [Zn(C(8)H(5)NO(5))(H(2)O)(5)]·H(2)O, the Zn(II) atom is coordinated by one O atom from the 2-(5-carboxyl-ato-2-oxidopyridinium-1-yl)acetate ligand and by five water mol-ecules, forming a distorted octa-hedral geometry. Coordinated and uncoordinated water mol-ecules form O-H?O hydrogen bonds, leading to a three-dimensional framework.

The structure of this new isopolymorphic one-dimensional coordination polymer features asymmetric bimetallic octa-hedral knots. O-H?O hydrogen bonds between water molecules and carboxylate O atoms help to consolidate the crystal packing.

In the complex mol-ecule, the two benzimidazole planes are twisted, making a dihedral angle of 55.93?(11)°. Project description:In the title compound, [Zn(C(6)H(3)FNO(2))(2)(H(2)O)(4)]·2H(2)O, the Zn(II) atom is octa-hedrally coordinated in a ZnO(4)N(2) environment by two 3-fluoro-pyridine-4-carboxyl-ate (3-fpy4-cbx) ligands and four water mol-ecules. The [Zn(3-fpy4-cbx)(2)(H(2)O)(4)] mol-ecules form a three-dimensional network through strong O-H?O and weak O-H?F hydrogen bonds between 3-fpy4-cbx and water mol-ecules. The crystal used for data collection was a twin, with the twin law corresponding to a 180° rotation about the real-space [001] axis. The major twin fraction refined to 0.795?(1).

The cation and the water O atom have crystallographically imposed inversion and twofold rotation symmetry, respectively. The metal centre displays an elongated ZnO(6) octa-hedral coordination geometry provided by the O atoms of four anions at the equatorial plane and two axial water mol-ecules. Each anion and water mol-ecule act as bridges between Zn(II) cations, forming a polymeric chain parallel to [001]. The chains are further linked into a three-dimensional framework through O-H?N hydrogen bonds.

O-H?O hydrogen bonds involving both the coordinated and uncoordinated water mol-ecules help to consolidate the structure and neighbouring pyphen units inter-act through numerous aromatic ?-? inter-actions [minimum centroid-centroid separation = 3.654?(3)?Å], resulting in a two-dimensional network.
