ABSTRACT: The title compound, C(18)H(18)O(4)S(2), was synthesized by the reaction of 1,2-dibromo-ethane with methyl thio-salicylate. The complete molecule is generated by crystallographic twofold symmetry: two methyl benzoate units are linked by an -S-(CH(2))(2)-S- bridging chain with a gauche S-CH(2)-CH(2)-S torsion angle [72.88?(16)°]. The two aromatic rings form a dihedral angle of 79.99?(6)°. In the crystal, adjacent mol-ecules are linked into a three-dimensional network by non-classical C-H?O hydrogen bonds.
