Benzamide-picric acid (1/1).

ABSTRACT: In the title compound, C(7)H(7)NO·C(6)H(3)N(3)O(7), one of the nitro groups of the picric acid mol-ecule lies in the plane of the attached benzene ring [dihedral angle = 1.4 (1)°] while the other two are twisted away by 9.9 (1) and 30.3 (1)°. In the benzamide mol-ecule, the amide group is almost coplanar with the benzene ring [dihedral angle = 4.4 (1)°]. An intra-molecular O-H⋯O hydrogen bond generates an S6 ring motif. In the crystal, mol-ecules are linked into a ribbon-like structure along the b axis by O-H⋯O and N-H⋯O inter-molecular hydrogen bonds. In addition, C-H⋯O hydrogen bonds and short O⋯O contacts [2.828 (2) Å] are observed.

Project description:The asymmetric unit of the title compound N,N-dimethyl-2-[(2-methyl-phen-yl)phenyl-meth-oxy]ethanaminium picrate picric acid, C(18)H(24)NO(+)·C(6)H(2)N(3)O(7) (-)·C(6)H(3)N(3)O(7), contains one orphenadrinium cation, one picrate anion and one picric acid mol-ecule. In the orphenadrine cation, the two aromatic rings form a dihedral angle of 70.30?(7)°. There is an intra-molecular O-H?O hydrogen bond in the picric acid mol-ecule, which generates an S(6) ring motif. In the crystal structure, the orphenadrine cations, picrate anions and picric acid mol-ecules are connected by strong inter-molecular N-H?O hydrogen bonds, ??? inter-actions between the benzene rings of cations and anions [centroid-centroid distance = 3.5603?(9)?Å] and weak C-H?O hydrogen bonds, forming a three-dimensional network.

4-Nitro-aniline-picric acid (2/1).

Project description:In the title adduct, C(6)H(3)N(3)O(7)·0.5C(6)H(6)N(2)O(2), the complete 4-nitro-aniline mol-ecule is generated by a crystallographic twofold axis with two C atoms and two N atoms lying on the axis. The mol-ecular components are linked into two dimensional corrugated layers running parallel to the (001) plane by a combination of inter-molecular N-H?O and C-H?O hydrogen bonds. The phenolic oxygen and two sets of nitro oxygen atoms in the picric acid were found to be disordered with occupancies of 0.81?(2):0.19?(2) and 0.55?(3):0.45?(3) and 0.77?(4):0.23?(4), respectively.

The three nitro groups are almost coplanar with the aromatic picrate ring [dihedral angles 10.2 (2)°, 7.62 (16) and 8.08 (17)°]. The mol-ecular conformation of the picric acid is stabilized by an intra-molecular O-H⋯O hydrogen bond. The phthalazin-1(2H)-one mol-ecules are connected via N-H⋯O hydrogen bonds, forming centrosymmetric dimers.

Project description:In the crown ether ring of the title compound, C(20)H(24)O(6)·2C(6)H(3)N(3)O(7)·3H(2)O, the O-C(H(2))-C(H(2))-O torsion angles indicate a gauche conformation of the ethyl-eneoxy units, while the C-O-C-C torsion angles indicate planarity of these segments; the dihedral angle between the two benzene rings is 44.53 (13)°. In both picric acid mol-ecules, one of the nitro groups is twisted away from the attached ring. The mol-ecules are linked into chains along the b axis via inter-molecular O-H⋯O hydrogen bonds. In addition, the crystal structure is stabilized by C-H⋯O hydrogen bonds and π-π inter-actions [centroid-centroid distance between benzene rings = 3.5697 (16) Å].

Nitrite elimination and hydrolytic ring cleavage in 2,4,6-trinitrophenol (picric acid) degradation.

Project description:Two hydrogenation reactions in the initial steps of degradation of 2,4,6-trinitrophenol produce the dihydride Meisenheimer complex of 2,4,6-trinitrophenol. The npdH gene (contained in the npd gene cluster of the 2,4,6-trinitrophenol-degrading strain Rhodococcus opacus HL PM-1) was shown here to encode a tautomerase, catalyzing a proton shift between the aci-nitro and the nitro forms of the dihydride Meisenheimer complex of 2,4,6-trinitrophenol. An enzyme (which eliminated nitrite from the aci-nitro form but not the nitro form of the dihydride complex of 2,4,6-trinitrophenol) was purified from the 2,4,6-trinitrophenol-degrading strain Nocardioides simplex FJ2-1A. The product of nitrite release was the hydride Meisenheimer complex of 2,4-dinitrophenol, which was hydrogenated to the dihydride Meisenheimer complex of 2,4-dinitrophenol by the hydride transferase I and the NADPH-dependent F(420) reductase from strain HL PM-1. At pH 7.5, the dihydride complex of 2,4-dinitrophenol is protonated to 2,4-dinitrocyclohexanone. A hydrolase was purified from strain FJ2-1A and shown to cleave 2,4-dinitrocyclohexanone hydrolytically to 4,6-dinitrohexanoate.

Triptycene-Derived Photoresponsive Fluorescent Azo-Polymer as Chemosensor for Picric Acid Detection.

Project description:Two new triptycene-based azobenzene-functionalized polymers (TBAFPs) have been synthesized using the well-known Pd-catalyzed Sonogashira cross-coupling polycondensation reaction between 2,6-diethynyltriptycene and (meta or para) dibromo-azobenzenes. Enhancement of the fluorescent emission intensity was observed upon trans → cis isomerization of -N=N- linkage in TBAFPs. The cis-lifetime of TBAFP1 is rather long (greater than 2 days). The resulting materials were tested as a potential chemosensor for the detection of picric acid (PA)-a water pollutant as well as chemical constituent of explosives used in warfare. PA was found to interact strongly with TBAFPs, which led to significant quenching of the latter's fluorescence emission intensities. The binding constants are in the order of 105 M-1. TBAFPs were also able to detect PA in nanomolar concentrations.

Unimolecular Decomposition Reactions of Picric Acid and Its Methylated Derivatives─A DFT Study.

Project description:To handle energetic materials safely, it is important to have knowledge about their sensitivity. Density functional theory (DFT) has proven a valuable tool in the study of energetic materials, and in the current work, DFT is employed to study the thermal unimolecular decomposition of 2,4,6-trinitrophenol (picric acid, PA), 3-methyl-2,4,6-trinitrophenol (methyl picric acid, mPA), and 3,5-dimethyl-2,4,6-trinitrophenol (dimethyl picric acid, dmPA). These compounds have similar molecular structures, but according to the literature, mPA is far less sensitive to impact than the other two compounds. Three pathways believed important for the initiation reactions are investigated at 0 and 298.15 K. We compare the computed energetics of the reaction pathways with the objective of rationalizing the unexpected sensitivity behavior. Our results reveal a few if any significant differences in the energetics of the three molecules, and thus do not reflect the sensitivity deviations observed in experiments. These findings point toward the potential importance of crystal structure, crystal morphology, bimolecular reactions, or combinations thereof on the impact sensitivity of nitroaromatics.

A Highly-Sensitive Picric Acid Chemical Sensor Based on ZnO Nanopeanuts.

Project description:Herein, we report a facile synthesis, characterization, and electrochemical sensing application of ZnO nanopeanuts synthesized by a simple aqueous solution process and characterized by various techniques in order to confirm the compositional, morphological, structural, crystalline phase, and optical properties of the synthesized material. The detailed characterizations revealed that the synthesized material possesses a peanut-shaped morphology, dense growth, and a wurtzite hexagonal phase along with good crystal and optical properties. Further, to ascertain the useful properties of the synthesized ZnO nanopeanut as an excellent electron mediator, electrochemical sensors were fabricated based on the form of a screen printed electrode (SPE). Electrochemical and current-voltage characteristics were studied for the determination of picric acid sensing characteristics. The electrochemical sensor fabricated based on the SPE technique exhibited a reproducible and reliable sensitivity of ~1.2 μA/mM (9.23 μA·mM-1·cm-2), a lower limit of detection at 7.8 µM, a regression coefficient (R²) of 0.94, and good linearity over the 0.0078 mM to 10.0 mM concentration range. In addition, the sensor response was also tested using simple I-V techniques, wherein a sensitivity of 493.64 μA·mM-1·cm-2, an experimental Limit of detection (LOD) of 0.125 mM, and a linear dynamic range (LDR) of 1.0 mM-5.0 mM were observed for the fabricated picric acid sensor.

A FRET-based fluorescent and colorimetric probe for the specific detection of picric acid.

Project description:Picric acid (PA) as an environmental pollutant and high explosive, has recently received considerable attention. In this paper, a novel fluorescent and colorimetric chemo-probe (L) for the highly selective and sensitive detection of picric acid has been revealed. The probe was facilely constructed using rhodamine B, ethylenediamine and 4-(9H-carbazol-9-yl)benzoyl chloride. Significant fluorescence changes based on an intramolecular fluorescence resonance energy transfer (FRET) effect followed by a distinct color change from colorless to pink were observed after addition of picric acid to the probe solution. Selectivity measurements revealed that the as-synthesized probe exhibited high selectivity toward PA in the presence or absence of other analytes. The experimental titration results suggested that the as-synthesized probe is an effective tool for detection of PA with a nanomolar scale detection limit (820 nM) and could also serve as a "naked-eye" indicator for PA detection.
