Aqua(dimethylformamide){tris[(1-methyl-1H-benzimidazol-2-yl)methyl]amine}nickel(II) dipicrate.

ABSTRACT: In the title complex, [Ni(C(27)H(27)N(7))(C(3)H(7)NO)(H(2)O)](C(6)H(2)N(3)O(7))(2), the Ni(II) ion is coordinated in a slightly distorted octa-hedral coordination evironment by an NiN(4)O(2) ligand set. The tris-(N-methyl-benzimidazol-2-ylmeth-yl)amine ligand is in a tetra-dentate mode while a coordinated water molecule and a dimethyl-formamide ligand complete the coordination. In the crystal structure, inter-molecular O-H?O hydrogen bonds link the cation and one of the pictrate anions into four-component centrosymmetric clusters.

Project description:In the title compound, [Ni(C(19)H(13)N(5))(2)](C(6)H(2)N(3)O(7))(2)·2C(3)H(7)NO, the Ni(II) ion is coordinated by two tridentate 2,6-bis-(1H-benzimidazol-2-yl)pyridine ligands in a distorted octa-hedral geometry. In the crystal structure, the picrate anions and solvent dimethyl-formamide (DMF) mol-ecules are connected to the cation via inter-molecular N-H?O hydrogen bonds. Further stabilization is provided by weak inter-molecular C-H?O hydrogen bonds. One of the DMF moleclues is disordered over two sites with refined occupancies of 0.737?(3) and 0.263?(3).

One of the picrate anions is disordered over two sets of sites, with refined occupancies of 0.504?(15) and 0.496?(15). A 0.5-occupancy acetonitrile solvent mol-ecule is disordered over two sites with equal occupancies. The H atoms of a 0.25-occupancy solvent water mol-ecule were neither located nor included in the refinement.

Two symmetry-related azide ligands bridge in ?(2)-modes giving a Cu?Cu distance of 3.533?(2)?Å. In the crystal, N-H?O and O-H?O hydrogen bonds link the components into a three-dimensional network. In addition, there are weak inter-molecular C-H?N hydrogen bonds and ?-? stacking inter-actions with centroid-centroid distances ranging from 3.562?(2) to 3.974?(2)?Å.

It crystallized as a dihydrate and inter-molecular O-H?O and N-H?O hydrogen bonds link the uncoordinated water mol-ecules, and the nitro and amine groups, respectively. In the crystal, N-H?O, O-H?N, O-H?O and C-H?O hydrogen bonds link the mol-ecules to form a three-dimensional network. A ?-? contact between the benzene rings, [centroid-centroid distance = 3.588?(1)?Å] may further stabilize the crystal structure.
