Catena-Poly[[[aqua-pyridine-zinc(II)]-μ(2)-3,3'-(p-phenyl-ene)diacrylato] pyridine solvate].

ABSTRACT: The title compound, {[Zn(C(12)H(8)O(4))(C(5)H(5)N)(H(2)O)]·C(5)H(5)N}(n), has been prepared by hydro-thermal reaction. The Zn(II) atom is six-coordinated by four carboxyl-ate O atoms of two p-phenylenediacrylate (ppda(2-)) ligands, one N atom of a pyridine mol-ecule and one O atom of a water mol-ecule in a distorted octa-hedral environment. The carboxyl-ate groups of the ppda(2-) anions are in a bridging-chelating mode, in which two O atoms chelate one Zn(2+) ion. These connections result in an extended chain structure. Parallel packing of the chains forms a two-dimensional network with inter-molecular edge-to-face inter-actions. Further linkages between the layers through O-H⋯O hydrogen-bonding inter-actions result in a three-dimensional supra-molecular architecture with one-dimensional recta-nglar channels.

The mpda anions bridge the Cd(II) cations, forming helical chains propagating along the c-axis direction. The mpba anion has twofold symmetry with two benzene C atoms located on the twofold rotation axis. The chains constructed through the trans-related acetate groups of the ligand are inter-connected via O-H⋯O hydrogen bonds involving coordinated aqua ligands, the nitrate anions and the partial-occupancy (0.25) water mol-ecule of solvation, forming a three-dimensional structure.

Project description:The reaction of cobalt(II) nitrate with 5-amino-2,4,6-tri-iodo-isophthalic acid (ATPA) in pyridine solution leads to the formation of the title compound, {[Co(C(8)H(2)I(3)NO(4))(C(5)H(5)N)(3)(H(2)O)]·C(5)H(5)N}(n). The Co(2+) ion is six-coordinated by three N atoms, one water O atom and two O atoms from two ATPA ligands to form a distorted octa-hedral geometry. The two carboxyl-ate groups of ATPA act as bridging ligands connecting the Co(II) metal centers to form one-dimensional zigzag chains along the c axis, with Co-O distances in the range 2.104 (4)-2.135 (4) Å. The average Co-N distance is 2.171 Å. A classical O-H⋯N hydrogen bond is formed by the coordinating water mol-ecule and the pyridine solvent mol-ecule. The structure was refined from a racemically twinned crystal with a twin ratio of approximately 8:1.

Two Zn(II) ions are bridged by two carboxyl-ate groups in chelating mode, generating a binuclear secondary building unit (SBU), which is further coordinated by two N atoms from two imidazole ligands in monodentate mode. Thus, the binuclear SBUs are further bridged by imidazole ligands in two different directions, giving rise to a chain. The water solvent mol-ecules are hydrogen bonded within the chain along the c axis.

Metallomacrocyclic rings are identified in the structure. The metallomacrocycle contains two Zn(II) ions and 14 atoms from the bridging ligands. Repetition of these units gives rise to an infinite zigzag chain along [101]. C-H⋯O hydrogen bonds occur.
