ABSTRACT: In the cation of the title salt, C(6)H(8)N(4) (2+)·C(8)H(2)Br(3)NO(4) (2-), the dihedral angle between the two five-membered rings is 2.1?(3)°. In the anion, the mean planes of the carboxyl units are twisted from the benzene ring by 84.3?(4) and 86.2?(3)°. In the crystal, the components are linked by imidazolium-carboxyl-ate N-H?O hydrogen bonds, generating a chain running along [10].

Project description:The title compound, C(10)H(8)I(3)NO(4), crystallizes with two mol-ecules in the asymmetric unit. The I atoms and the benzene ring plane in the two mol-ecules are approximately coplanar, the I atoms deviating by -0.1631?(1), 0.0704?(1) and -0.0507?(1)?Å from the mean plane of the benzene ring in one mol-ecule and by 0.1500?(1), -0.0034?(1) and -0.1213?(1)?Å in the other. The planes of the ester groups are almost orthogonal to those of the benzene rings in both mol-ecules, forming dihedral angles of 83.5?(3), 76.4?(3), 97.3?(1) and 75.7?(1)°. The mean planes of the benzene rings in two mol-ecules are inclined at 69.8?(3)° with respect to each other. In the crystal, inter-molecular I?O inter-actions link the mol-ecules into infinite chains. In addition, N-H?O and non-classical C-H?O hydrogen bonds are observed.

Project description:The title compound, C(12)H(12)I(3)NO(4), crystallizes with two mol-ecules in an asymmetric unit. In one of the mol-ecules, the conformation of the O-C-O-C in one ester group is cis and trans in the other. The corresponding conformations for both the ester groups in the other mol-ecule are trans. The I atoms and the benzene rings in the two mol-ecules are approximately coplanar, the I atoms deviating by 0.219?(14), 0.056?(15) and -0.143?(14)?Å from the mean plane of the benzene ring in one mol-ecule and 0.189?(14), -0.162?(15) and -0.068?(14)?Å in the other. The planes of the ester groups are almost orthogonal to those of the benzene rings in both mol-ecules, forming dihedral angles of 88.1?(4), 72.2?(4), 73.0?(4) and 86.6?(4)°. The mean planes of the benzene rings in the two mol-ecules are inclined at 74.6?(4)° with respect to each other. In the crystal, inter-molecular I?O inter-actions [3.138?(7) and 3.144?(7)?Å] link the mol-ecules into infinite chains along the a axis. In addition, non-classical C-H?O hydrogen bonds are observed.

Two new polytypes of 2,4,6-tri-bromo-benzo-nitrile.

Project description:Three polymorphs of 2,4,6-tri-bromo-benzo-nitrile (RCN), C7H2Br3N, two of which are novel and one of which is a redetermination of the original structure first determined by Carter & Britton [(1972). Acta Cryst. B28, 945-950] are found to be polytypic. Each has a layer structure which differs only in the stacking of the layers. Each layer is composed of mol-ecules associated through C N⋯Br contacts which form R (2) 2(10) rings. Two such rings are associated with each N atom; one with each ortho-Br atom. No new polytypes of 1,3,5-tri-bromo-2-iso-cyano-benzene (RNC) were found but a re-determination of the original structure by Carter et al. [(1977). Cryst. Struct. Commun. 6, 543-548] is presented. RNC was found to be isostructural with one of the novel polytypes of RCN. Unit cells were determined for 23 RCN samples and 11 RNC samples. Polytypes could not be distinguished based on crystal habits. In all four structures, each mol-ecule of the asymmetric unit lies across a mirror plane.

Individual mol-ecules self-assemble via strong N-H?O hydrogen bonds into supra-molecular double tapes running parallel to the [010] crystallographic direction. The close packing of supra-molecular tapes is mediated by geometrical reasons in tandem with a number of weaker N-H?O and C-H?N hydrogen-bonding inter-actions.

Project description:The asymmetric unit of the title salt, 2C4H8N5 (+)·SO4 (2-)·5H2O, contains four 2,4,6-tri-amino-pyrimidinium (TAPH(+)) cations, two sulfate anions and ten lattice water mol-ecules. Each two of the four TAPH(+) cations form dimers via N-H?N hydrogen bonds between the amino groups and the unprotonated pyrimidine N atoms [graph-set motif R 2 (2)(8)]. The (TAPH(+))2 dimers, in turn, form slightly offset infinite ?-? stacks parallel to [010], with centroid-centroid distances between pyrimidine rings of 3.5128?(15) and 3.6288?(16)?Å. Other amino H atoms, as well as the pyrimidinium N-H groups, are hydrogen-bonded to sulfate and lattice water O atoms. The SO4 (2-) anions and water mol-ecules are inter-connected with each other via O-H?O hydrogen bonds. The combination of hydrogen-bonding inter-actions and ?-? stacking leads to the formation of a three-dimensional network with alternating columns of TAPH(+) cations and channels filled with sulfate anions and water mol-ecules. One of the sulfate anions shows a minor disorder by a ca 37° rotation around one of the S-O bonds [occupancy ratio of the two sets of sites 0.927?(3):0.073?(3)]. One water mol-ecule is disordered over two mutually exclusive positions with an occupancy ratio of 0.64?(7):0.36?(7).

Project description:There are two independent mol-ecules in the asymmetric unit of the title compound, C16H17NO4, with similar conformations but some differences in their bond angles. Each mol-ecule adopts a trans configuration with respect to the methyl-idene C=N bond and is twisted with a dihedral angle between the two substituted benzene rings of 80.52 (7)° in one mol-ecule and 83.53 (7)° in the other. All meth-oxy groups are approximately coplanar with the attached benzene rings, with Cmeth-yl-O-C-C torsion angles ranging from -6.7 (2) to 5.07 (19)°. In the crystal, independent mol-ecules are linked together by O-H⋯N and O-H⋯O hydrogen bonds and a π-π inter-action [centroid-centroid distance of 3.6030 (9) Å], forming a dimer. The dimers are further linked by weak C-H⋯O inter-actions and another π-π inter-action [centroid-centroid distance of 3.9452 (9) Å] into layers lying parallel to the ab plane.
