Melaminium nitrate-melamine-water (1/1/1).

ABSTRACT: In the crystal structure of the title salt, C(3)H(7)N(6) (+)·NO(3) (-)·C(3)H(6)N(6)·H(2)O, the asymmetric unit consists of two neutral melamine (1,3,5-triazine-2,4,6-triamine) mol-ecules, two melaminium cations, two nitrate anions and two solvent water mol-ecules. One of the nitrate anions is disordered over two sets of positions, with a refined occupancy ratio of 0.909?(3):0.091?(3). The cations and neutral mol-ecules are approximately planar, with maximum deviations of 0.018?(2), 0.024?(2), 0.019?(2) and 0.007?(2)?Å for each, respectively. In the crystal structure, melaminium cations and netural melamine mol-ecules self-assemble via N-H?N hydrogen bonds to form a supra-molecular hexa-gonal-shaped motif. In addition, the nitrate anions and water mol-ecules are connected by N-H?O hydrogen bonds to form a three-dimensional network.

Protonated Melamine Sponge for Effective Oil/Water Separation.

Project description:In this study, we fabricated a superhydrophilic and underwater superoleophobic protonated melamine sponge for effective separation of water-rich immiscible oil/water mixtures with extremely high separation efficiency. This protonated melamine sponge exhibited excellent antifouling properties and could be used to separate oil/water mixtures continuously for up to 12 h without any increase in the oil content in filtrate. Moreover, our compressed protonated melamine sponge could separate both surfactant-free and -stabilized oil-in-water emulsions with high separation efficiencies. The high performance of this protonated melamine sponge and its efficient, energy- and cost-effective preparation suggest that it has great potential for use in practical applications.

All of the H atoms of the melaminium cation are involved in hydrogen bonds. The melaminium cations are inter-connected by four N-H?N hydrogen bonds, forming ribbons along [111]. The water mol-ecules connected by N-H?O hydrogen bonds also form part of these ribbons. Melaminium hydrogen malonate.

Project description:The melaminium (2,4,6-triamino-1,3,5-triazin-1-ium) cation in the title compound, C(3)H(7)N(6) (+)·C(3)H(3)O(4) (-), is essentially planar, with a r.m.s. deviation of the non-H atoms of 0.0085 Å. Extensive hydrogen bonding of the types N-H⋯N and N-H⋯O between cations and cations and between cations and hydrogen malonate (2-carb-oxy-ethano-ate) anions leads to the formation of supra-molecular layers parallel to (1-2-1). An intra-molecular O-H⋯O hydrogen bond in the single deprotonated malonate anion also occurs.

Bis(melaminium) tartrate dihydrate.

Project description:In the title compound, 2C(3)H(7)N(6) (+)·C(4)H(4)O(6) (2-)·2H(2)O, in which the complete anion is generated by crystallographic twofold symmetry, there are O-H⋯O, N-H⋯O and N-H⋯N hydrogen-bonding inter-actions between neighbouring moieties, forming layers parallel to the bc plane. In addition, π-π contacts [centroid-centroid distance = 3.6541 (9) Å] between the six-membered rings of the melamine cations are observed.

Water-Dispersible Carboxymethyl Dextran-Coated Melamine Nanoparticles for Biosensing Applications.

Project description:In this study, we developed a simple method for preparing highly dispersed, stable, and streptavidin (SA)-functionalized carboxymethyl dextran (CMD)-coated melamine nanoparticles (MNPs) in an aqueous buffer at neutral pH. Dynamic light scattering (DLS) revealed the agglomeration of MNPs in an aqueous buffer at neutral pH. When CMD, N-hydroxysuccinimide (NHS), and 1-ethyl-3-(3-dimethylaminopropyl) carbodiimide (EDC) were simultaneously mixed with the MNPs, CMD was bound to the MNPs, promoting their dispersibility. Preparation of SA-CMD-MNPs was accomplished simply by adding SA solution to the CMD-MNPs. The amount of SA bound to the CMD-MNPs was quantified by the bicinchoninic assay, and the amount of SA molecules bound to each CMD-MNP was 417 ± 4. SA-CMD-MNPs exhibited high dispersity (polydispersity index = 0.058) in a neutral phosphate buffer and maintained it for 182 days with dispersion using a probe sonicator (5 s) before DLS characterization. The performance of the SA-CMD-MNPs in biosensing was evaluated by immunohistochemistry, which revealed that the nanoparticles could specifically stain MCF-7 cells derived from breast cancer cells with low HER2 expression. This study provides an effective method for synthesizing highly dispersible nanoparticles for biosensing.

Melaminium 2,4,6-trihydroxy-benzoate dihydrate.

Project description:In the title compound, C(3)H(7)N(6) (+)·C(7)H(5)O(5) (-)·2H(2)O, the melaminium and benzoate ions are approximately planar (r.m.s. deviation of the non-hydrogen atoms is 0.093 Å) and there is a strong C(2) (2)(8) hydrogen-bonding embrace between them. The centre of symmetry generates a second acid-base pair which is bound to the first by a C(2) (2)(8) (N-H⋯N) embrace common between melamine mol-ecules in similar compounds. Further extensive hydrogen bonding assembles the components into a three-dimensional hydrogen-bonded network.

Tailoring surface-supported water-melamine complexes by cooperative H-bonding interactions.

Project description:The water-splitting photo-catalysis by carbon nitride heterocycles has been the subject of recent theoretical investigations, revealing a proton-coupled electron transfer (PCET) reaction from the H-bonded water molecule to the CN-heterocycle. In this context, a detailed characterization of the water-catalyst binding configuration becomes mandatory in order to validate and possibly improve the theoretical modeling. To this aim, we built a well-defined surface-supported water/catalyst interface by adsorbing water under ultra-high vacuum (UHV) conditions on a monolayer of melamine grown on the Cu(111) surface. By combining X-ray photoemission (XPS) and absorption (NEXAFS) spectroscopy we observed that melamine adsorbed onto copper is strongly tilted off the surface, with one amino group dangling to the vacuum side. The binding energy (BE) of the corresponding N 1s component is significantly higher compared to other N 1s contributions and displays a clear shift to lower BE as water is adsorbed. This finding along with density functional theory (DFT) results reveals that two adjacent melamine molecules concurrently work for stabilizing the H-bonded water-catalyst complex: one melamine acting as a H-donor via the amino-N (NH⋯OHH) and another one as a H-acceptor via the triazine-N (C[double bond, length as m-dash]N⋯HOH).

Project description:The asymmetric unit of the solvated title salt, 2C(3)H(7)N(6) (+)·C(4)H(4)O(4) (2-)·C(4)H(6)O(4)·2H(2)O, contains one essentially planar melaminium (2,4,6-triamino-1,3,5-triazin-1-ium) cation (r.m.s. deviation of the non-H atoms = 0.0097 Å), one-half of a succinate anion, one-half of a succinic acid solvent mol-ecule and one water molecule of crystallization; full mol-ecules are generated by inversion symmetry. Supra-molecular layers parallel to (12-1) are formed through extensive inter-molecular hydrogen bonding of the types O-H⋯O, N-H⋯N and N-H⋯O between the components.
