ABSTRACT: The asymmetric unit of the title compound, [Cu(C(26)H(22)N(2)O(2))]·C(2)H(5)OH, comprises a Schiff base complex and an ethanol mol-ecule of crystallization. The Cu(II) atom shows a distorted square-planar geometry. The dihedral angle between the two aromatic rings is 48.16?(13)°. The crystal structure is stabilized by inter-molecular O-H?O and C-H?O hydrogen bonds and inter-molecular ?-? inter-actions with centroid-centroid distances in the range 3.485?(2)-3.845?(3)?Å.

The asymmetric unit of the compound is composed of one half-mol-ecule. The imino group is coplanar with the benzene ring. Within the mol-ecule, the planar units are parallel but extend in opposite directions from the methyl-ene bridge. In the crystal structure, neighbouring mol-ecules are linked together by weak inter-molecular C-H?N hydrogen bonds involving the cyano N atoms. These form ten-membered rings, generating R(2) (2)(10) ring motifs, and link the mol-ecules along the c axis.

One of the Cu(II) ions is coordinated in a distorted square-planar geometry, whereas the other is coordinated in a distorted square-pyramidal geometry, the long apical Cu-O bond [2.885?(4)?Å] of the square-pyramidal coordination being provided by a symmetry-related O atom creating a one-dimensional polymer along [010]. ?-? stacking inter-actions [centroid-centroid distance = 3.783?(4)?Å] and short inter-chain Br?Br inter-actions [3.6142?(12)-3.6797?(12)?Å] are observed.

Project description:The title complex, C(26)H(38)N(4)O(4), was synthesized by the reaction of 4-diethyl-amino-2-hydroxy-benzaldehyde with 1,4-bis-(amino-oxy)butane in ethanol. It crystallizes as discrete centrosymmetric molecules adopting an extended conformation where the two salicylaldoxime groups are separated from each other. Intra-molecular O-H?N hydrogen bonding is observed between the hydr-oxy groups and oxime N atoms. Inter-molecular ?-? stacking inter-actions [3.979?(2)?Å] between aromatic rings are apparent in the crystal structure. Each ethyl group is disordered over two positions; in one the site occupancy factors are 0.55 and 0.45, in the other 0.53 and 0.47.
