5-Pentyl-1H-tetra-zole.

ABSTRACT: The title compound C(6)H(12)N(4), is one of a few known tetra-zoles with an alkyl chain in the 5-position. The asymmetric unit contains two independent mol-ecules. The mol-ecules are linked by N-H?N inter-actions into chains with graph-set notation D(2) and C(2) (2)(8) along [010]. The two independent mol-ecules form a layered structure, the layers being composed of inter-digitating strands of alternatingly oriented and nearly identical mol-ecules.

Project description:The title compound, C(8)H(8)N(4), possesses crystallographic mirror symmetry, with four C atoms lying on the reflecting plane, which bis-ects the phenyl and tetra-zole rings. It is composed of a planar r.m.s. deviation (0.0012?Å) tetra-zole ring which is nearly coplanar with the benzene ring, the dihedral angle being 2.67?(9)°. In the crystal, symmetry-related mol-ecules are linked by inter-molecular N-H?N hydrogen bonds. The mol-ecules stack along [100] with a ??? inter-action involving the phenyl and tetra-zole rings of adjacent mol-ecules [centroid-centroid distance = 3.5639?(15)?Å]. The H atom of the N-H group is disordered over two sites of equal occupancy. The methyl H atoms were modelled as disordered over two sets of sites of equal occupancy rotated by 60° with respect to each other.

In the crystal, inter-molecular N-H⋯N hydrogen bonds link the mol-ecules into chains along the a axis. The relatively short distance of 3.760 (3) Å between the centroids of the tetra-zole rings suggests the existence of π-π inter-actions.

Project description:Crystals of the title organic compound, C(8)H(6)N(8), were generated in situ through the [2 + 3]-cyclo-addition reaction involving the precursor 1,4-dicyano-benzene and azide in water with Zn(2+) as Lewis acid. The asymmetric unit consists of one half-mol-ecule, and a twofold axis of symmetry passes through the centre of the benzene ring. There is an inter-molecular N-H?N hydrogen bond. The mol-ecules are assembled into a three-dimensional supra-molecular framework by ?-? stacking inter-actions, with a perpendicular distance of 3.256?Å [centroid-centroid = 3.9731?(8)?Å] between two tetra-zole ring planes, and 3.382?Å between the benz-ene ring and tetra-zole ring planes [centroid-centroid = 3.5010?(9)?Å].

Project description:The crystal structure of the title compound, C(15)H(14)N(4), contains chains of coplanar tetra-zole rings with the chain direction along b. These are formed through weak hydrogen bonds, donated by the tetra-zole H atoms and by one of the H atoms of the methyl-ene group, and accepted by two neighbouring N atoms of the adjacent tetra-zole ring. The chains are connected to each other in a staircase-like manner via weak hydrogen bonds, donated from the second H atom of the methyl-ene group and accepted by the N atom next to the C atom in the tetra-zole ring. The resulting layers are parallel to the bc plane.
