ABSTRACT: In the title compound, [Ni(NCS)(2)(C(13)H(19)N(3)O)(H(2)O)], the Ni(II) ion is six-coordinated by the N,N',N''-tridentate Schiff base, the N atoms of two thio-cyanate ligands and one water O atom in a distorted octa-hedral geometry. Intra-molecular C-H?N and C-H?O hydrogen bonds occur. In the crystal, O-H?S, O-H?O and C-H?S hydrogen bonds link adjacent mol-ecules into layers parallel to the ac plane.

Project description:The asymmetric unit of the title compound, [Zn(NCS)(2)(C(13)H(19)N(3)O)], contains two crystallographically independent mol-ecules. In each mol-ecule, the Zn(II) ion is five-coordinated by the N,N',N"-tridentate Schiff base and the N atoms of two thio-cyanate ligands in a distorted square-pyramidal geometry. The two mol-ecules differ mainly in the deviations from the ideal geometry, with ? values of 0.14 and 0.33. In the crystal, inter-molecular C-H?S hydrogen bonds are observed. An intra-molecular C-H?N hydrogen bond occurs in one of the independent mol-ecules.

The pendant methyl group of the central propane-1,2-diamine fragment of the ligand is statistically disordered over two sets of positions. In the crystal, weak N-H?S hydrogen bonds between the amino groups and the thio-cyanate anions form an R 4 (2)(8) motif. The complex mol-ecules are linked by O-H?O, O-H?S, and N-H?S hydrogen bonds into a three-dimensional supra-molecular structure. Weak ?-? inter-actions between the pyridine rings is also found [centroid-centroid distance = 3.8578?(14)?Å].
