Bis(2,9-dimethyl-1,10-phenanthrolin-1-ium) hydrogen (S,S)-tartrate nona-hydrate.

ABSTRACT: The asymmetric unit of the title compound, 2C(14)H(13)N(2) (+)·2C(4)H(5)O(6) (-)·9H(2)O, contains two cations and two anions in addition to nine mol-ecules of water. Each of the hydrogen tartrate anions is hydrogen bonded to itself by translation along [100] in a head-to-tail fashion via a short hydrogen bond with donor-acceptor distances of 2.473?(4) and 2.496?(4)?Å. A large number of inter-molecular O-H?O, N-H?O and C-H?O hydrogen-bonding inter-actions, as well as ?-? stacking [centroid-centroid distances in the range 3.642?(3) to 3.866?(3)?Å], play an important role in the crystal structure.

The carboxyl end of one hydrogen tartrate anion forms a short hydrogen bond to the carboxyl-ate end of another anion [O?O = 2.508?(2)?Å] in a head-to-tail manner, forming a chain; the chains and water mol-ecules inter-act, generating an O-H?O hydrogen-bonded layer. The cation binds to the layer by an N-H?O hydrogen bond.

Project description:In the preparation of the title hydrated salt, C14H13N2 (+)·C10H5O8 (-)·H2O, a proton has been transfered to the 2,9-dimethyl-1,10-phenanthrolinium cation, forming a 2,4,5-tri-carb-oxy-benzoate anion. In the anion, the mean planes of the protonated carboxyl-ate groups form dihedral angles of 11.0?(5), 4.4?(5) and 80.3?(4)° with the benzene ring to which they are attached. The mean plane of the deprotonated carboxyl-ate group forms a dihedral angle of 10.6?(5)° with the benzene ring. In the crystal, the anions are involved in carb-oxy-lic acid O-H?Ocarbox-yl hydrogen bonds, generating a two-dimensional network parallel to (001) containing R 4 (4)(28) and R 4 (4)(32) motifs. The 2,9-dimethyl-1,10-phenanthrolinium cations and water mol-ecules reside between the anion layers and are connected to the anions via N-H?Owater and Owater-H?Ocarbox-yl hydrogen bonds. An intra-molecular O-H?O hydrogen bond is also observed in the anion.

Project description:The title structure, C(12)H(9)N(2) (+)·C(4)H(5)O(6) (-)·3H(2)O, shows that one of the protons of d-tartaric acid has been transferred to 1,10-phenanthroline. The d-hydrogen tartrate anions are joined together in a head-to-tail fashion via a short hydrogen bond with donor-acceptor distance of 2.4554?(12)?Å, unsymmetrical O-H distances of 1.01?(4)?Å and 1.45?(4)?Å, and a 174?(4)° O-H-O bond angle. The phenanthrolinium rings are ?-stacked with an average separation of 3.58?(11)?Å. The structural report corrects a previous report in the literature [Wang et al. (2006 ?). Acta Cryst. E62, o2508-o2509] of the isostructural l-hydrogen tartrate enanti-omer in which the proton transfer and short hydrogen bond were missed.

Project description:Both the cation and anion of the title compound, (C(26)H(21)N(2))[AuCl(4)], are disposed about a plane of mirror symmetry. The 2,9-dimethyl-4,7-diphenyl-1,10-phenanthrolinium ring is oriented at a dihedral angle of 44.2?(1)° with respect to the planar phenyl ring systems. The Au(III) atom has a square-planar environment defined by four Cl atoms. The crystal structure is stabilized by C-H?? and Au?? ring-metal (3.551?Å) inter-actions. In the crystal structure, the mol-ecules stack along the c axis via N-H?N hydrogen-bond inter-actions.

Due to symmetry, the H atom on the N atom of the cation is half-occupied. In the anion, the Fe(III) atom has a tetra-hedral geometry. H atoms of the methanol mol-ecule are disordered over two sets of sites around the twofold axis. In the crystal, ?-? contacts between the pyridine rings and between the pyridine and benzene rings [centroid-centroid distances = 3.6535?(16) and 3.5522?(17)?Å] and inter-molecular O-H?N and N-H?O hydrogen bonds stabilize the structure.

Project description:The asymmetric unit of the title co-crystal, 2C14H13N2 (+)·C10H4O8 (2-)·2C14H12N2·C10H6O8, comprises a 2,9-dimethyl-1,10-phenanthrolin-1-ium cation (Me2PhenH(+)) and a 2,9-dimethyl-1,10-phenanthroline mol-ecule (Me2Phen), each in a general position, and half each of a 2,5-di-carb-oxy-benzene-1,4-di-carboxyl-ate dianion (LH2 (2-)) and a benzene-1,2,4,5-tetra-carb-oxy-lic acid mol-ecule (LH4), each being disposed about a centre of inversion. Small twists are evident in the dianion [the C-C-C-O torsion angles are 168.41?(18) and 16.2?(3)°], whereas a major twist is found for one carb-oxy-lic acid group in the neutral mol-ecule [C-C-C-O = 66.3?(2) and 18.2?(3)°]. The most prominent feature of the crystal packing is the formation of linear supra-molecular chains along [001] mediated by charge-assisted O-H?O(-) hydrogen bonding between alternating LH4 and LH2 (2-). These are connected to the Me2PhenH(+) and Me2Phen species by N-H?O and O-H?N hydrogen bonds, respectively. A three-dimensional architecture is formed by C-H?O and ?-? inter-actions [inter-centroid distance = 3.5337?(17)?Å].

Project description:In the asymmetric unit of the title complex, [Mn(C(7)H(5)O(3))(2)(C(14)H(12)N(2))(H(2)O)]·0.5C(14)H(12)N(2), the Mn(II) ion is coordinated by a bidentate 2,9-dimethyl-1,10-phenanthroline (dmphen) mol-ecule, one water mol-ecule and two monodentate 2-hydroxy-benzoate anions in a distorted trigonal-bipyramidal geometry. The OH group of the 2-hydroxy-benzoate anion is disordered over two positions with site-occupancy factors of 0.5. The asymmetric unit is completed with by an uncoordinated half-mol-ecule of dmphen, disordered about a crystallographic twofold axis. In the crystal structure, mol-ecules are linked into a two-dimensional framework by O-H?N, O-H?O and C-H?O hydrogen bonds. The packing of the structure is further stabilized by ?-? stacking inter-actions involving dmphen mol-ecules, with centroid-centroid separations of 3.8027?(3) and 3.6319?(3)?Å.

Project description:In the structure of the title 2:1 proton-transfer compound, 2C12H8N3O2 (+)·C10H4O8 (2-), the 6-nitro-1,10-phenanthroline mol-ecules act as proton sponges, accepting protons from pyromellitic acid. The -NO2 group of one of the 6-nitro-1,10-phenanthrolin-1-ium cations is disordered and was refined with a site-occupancy ratio of 0.624?(15):0.376?(15). Two -COOH(-COO(-)) groups of the 2,5-di-carb-oxy-terephthalate dianion are disordered and were refined with site-occupancy ratios of 0.769?(4):0.231?(4) and 0.766?(5):0.234?(5). The -NO2 group of the second cation is also disordered about a pseudo-twofold rotation axis and was refined with a site-occupancy ratio of 0.903?(3):0.097?(3). There is an intra-molecular O-H?O hydrogen bond in the anion. The phenanthroline rings of the two cations are inclined to one another by 31.3?(1)°. In the anions, considering the major components only, the carb-oxy-lic acid groups (-COOH) are inclined to the benzene ring by 17.3?(2) and 22.3?(3)°. The carboxyl-ate groups (-COO(-)) are twisted by 9.3?(2) and 13.6?(6)° with respect to the benzene ring. In the crystal, adjacent 2,5-di-carb-oxy-terephthalate anions are linked via O-H?O hydrogen bonds, forming chains propagating along [010]. The cations are attached to the chain of anions by N-H?O hydrogen bonds.
