ABSTRACT: The title compound, Pr(SO(4))(OH), obtained under hydro-thermal conditions, consists of Pr(III) ions coordinated by nine O atoms from six sulfate groups and three hydroxide anions. The bridging mode of the O atoms results in the formation of a three-dimensional framework, stabilized by two O-H?O hydrogen-bonding inter-actions.

Project description:Measurements of the spectrum of doubly ionized praseodymium from 821 to 2103 Å are given. One hundred fifty-three energy levels deduced from these wavelengths and an earlier line-list of longer wavelengths are presented. These levels are identified with the configurations 4f26s, 4f27s, 4f28s, 4f26p, 4f26d, 4f25f, 5d24f, and 4f5d6s and are given term designations. Radial energy integrals belonging to these configurations are parametrically deduced from the known levels. A value of 21.625 eV (174420 cm-1) for the ionization energy of Pr iii, with an estimated uncertainty of 0.016 eV (130 cm-1), is derived from the 4f2ns series (n = 6, 7, 8).

Poly[[diaqua-?(3)-citrato-praseodymium(III)] monohydrate].

Project description:In the coordination polymer, {[Pr(C(6)H(5)O(7))(H(2)O)(2)]·H(2)O}(n), seven of the nine coordination sites of the monocapped square-anti-prismatic geometry are occupied by three O atoms of the same citrate trianion (an O atom of the hy-droxy unit and the formally single-bond O atoms from two carboxyl units). Two other coordination sites are occupied by the O atoms of a chelating carboxyl unit of another citrate; one of these atoms is additionally involved in bridging. The seventh coordination site is occupied by the O atom of the formally double-bond O atom of a neighboring citrate. The remaining two coordination sites are occupied by water mol-ecules. The citrate functions in a ?(3)-bridging mode, connecting the metal atoms into a ribbon structure parallel to [010]. The structure is consolidated into a three-dimensional network by O-H?O hydrogen bonds.

Exploration of the Crystal Structure and Thermal and Spectroscopic Properties of Monoclinic Praseodymium Sulfate Pr2(SO4)3.

Project description:Praseodymium sulfate was obtained by the precipitation method and the crystal structure was determined by Rietveld analysis. Pr2(SO4)3 is crystallized in the monoclinic structure, space group C2/c, with cell parameters a = 21.6052 (4), b = 6.7237 (1) and c = 6.9777 (1) Å, β = 107.9148 (7)°, Z = 4, V = 964.48 (3) Å3 (T = 150 °C). The thermal expansion of Pr2(SO4)3 is strongly anisotropic. As was obtained by XRD measurements, all cell parameters are increased on heating. However, due to a strong increase of the monoclinic angle β, there is a direction of negative thermal expansion. In the argon atmosphere, Pr2(SO4)3 is stable in the temperature range of T = 30-870 °C. The kinetics of the thermal decomposition process of praseodymium sulfate octahydrate Pr2(SO4)3·8H2O was studied as well. The vibrational properties of Pr2(SO4)3 were examined by Raman and Fourier-transform infrared absorption spectroscopy methods. The band gap structure of Pr2(SO4)3 was evaluated by ab initio calculations, and it was found that the valence band top is dominated by the p electrons of oxygen ions, while the conduction band bottom is formed by the d electrons of Pr3+ ions. The exact position of ZPL is determined via PL and PLE spectra at 77 K to be at 481 nm, and that enabled a correct assignment of luminescent bands. The maximum luminescent band in Pr2(SO4)3 belongs to the 3P0 → 3F2 transition at 640 nm.

Dimanganese(II) hydroxide vanadate, Mn2(OH)[VO4].

Project description:Dimanganese(II) hydroxide vanadate was obtained from hydro-thermal reactions. The crystal structure of the title compound is isotypic with that of Zn2(OH)[VO4]. Three crystallographically independent Mn(2+) ions are present, one (site symmetry .m.) with a distorted trigonal-bipyramidal and two (site symmetries .m. and 1) with distorted octa-hedral coordination spheres. These polyhedra are linked through common edges, forming a corrugated layer-type of structure extending parallel to (100). A three-dimensional framework results via additional Mn-O-V-O-Mn connectivities involving the two different tetra-hedral [VO4] units (each with point-group symmetry .m.). O-H?O hydrogen bonds (one bifurcated) between the OH functions (both with point-group symmetry .m.) and the [VO4] units complete this arrangement.

The matlockite-type praseodymium(III) oxide bromide PrOBr.

Project description:The crystal structure of the praseodymium(III) oxide bromide, PrOBr, can be best described with layers of agglomerated square anti-prisms [PrO(4)Br(4)](9-). These slabs are stacked along the c axis and linked via two different secondary contacts between Pr(3+) and Br(-). The Pr(3+) cations occupy the Wyckoff site 2c with 4mm symmetry and carry four O(2-) anions as well as four primary Br(-) anions, yielding a coordination number of 8. While the Br(-) anions exhibit the same site symmetry as the Pr(3+) cations, the oxide anions are located at the Wyckoff position 2a with site symmetry [Formula: see text]m2 and have four Pr(3+) cations as neighbours, defining a tetra-hedron.

Catalytic Hydrolysis of Tricresyl Phosphate by Ruthenium (III) Hydroxide and Iron (III) Hydroxide towards Sensing Application.

Project description:Tricresyl phosphate (TCP) is an organophosphorous neurotoxin that has been detected in water, soil and air. Exposure to TCP in cockpit and cabin air poses a severe threat to flight safety and the health of the aircraft cabin occupants. Conventional methods for the detection of TCP in various samples are gas or liquid chromatography coupled to mass spectrometry, which are complex and expensive. To develop a simple low-cost methodology for the real-time monitoring of TCP in the environment, an effective catalyst is demanded for the hydrolysis of TCP under neutral condition. In this study, Ruthenium (III) hydroxide and Iron (III) hydroxide are found to facilitate the production of the alcoholysis and hydrolysis products of TCP, suggesting their role as a catalyst. With this finding, these metal hydroxides provide new potential to realize not only simple colorimetric or electrochemical detection of TCP, but also a simple detoxication strategy for TCP in environment. In addition, the catalytic capability of Ru (III) or Fe (III) hydroxide for TCP gives a hint that they can potentially serve as catalysts for the hydrolysis of alcolyolysis of many other organophosphate compounds.

Project description:In the title complex, {[Pr(C(2)O(4))(1.5)(H(2)O)(2)]·H(2)O}(n), the Pr(III) ion, which lies on a crystallographic inversion centre, is coordinated by seven O atoms from four oxalate ligands and two O atoms from two water ligands; further Pr-O coordination from tetra-dentate oxalate ligands forms a three-dimensional structure. The compound crystallized as a monohydrate, the water mol-ecule occupying space in small voids and being secured by O-H⋯O hydrogen bonding as an acceptor from ligand water H atoms and as a donor to oxalate O-acceptor sites.

Penta-potassium praseodymium(III) dilithium deca-fluoride, K(5)PrLi(2)F(10).

Project description:The crystal structure of K(5)PrLi(2)F(10) is isotypic with those of other K(5)RELi(2)F(10) compounds (RE = Eu, Nd). The lanthanoid ions are isolated in K(5)PrLi(2)F(10), with a mean separation between the Pr ions of 7.356?Å. It classifies this crystal as a so-called self-activated material containing lanthanoid ions within the matrix. Except for two K(+) and two F(-) ions, all atoms are located on sites with m symmetry. In the structure, distorted PrF(8) dodeca-hedra and two different LiF(4) tetra-hedra share F atoms, forming sheets parallel to (100). The isolated PrF(8) dodeca-hedra exhibit a mean Pr-F distance of 2.406?Å. The K(+) cations are located within and between these sheets, leading to highly irregular KF(x) polyhedra with coordination numbers of eight and nine for the alkali metal cations.

Synthesis and Characterization of the New Manganese Hydroxide Chloride γ-Mn(OH)Cl.

Project description:A new modification of Mn(OH)Cl was obtained under high-pressure/high-temperature conditions in a Walker-type multianvil device. The pale pink, hygroscopic compound crystallizes in the orthorhombic space group Pnma (no. 62) with a = 602.90(4), b = 350.98(2), c = 1077.69(7) pm, and V = 228 × 106 pm3. The layered centrosymmetric structure consists of edge-sharing Mn(OH)3Cl3 octahedra arranged in sheets parallel to the (001) plane. The comparatively long H···Cl distance of 275 pm suggests only weak hydrogen bonds between neighboring layers. Spin-polarized scalar-relativistic DFT+U calculations predict a non-conducting magnetically ordered ground state with a band gap of at least 3.2 eV and an effective magnetic moment of 4.65 µB/f. u. The experimentally determined magnetic response of Mn(OH)Cl is paramagnetic in the range of 10-300 K. The estimated moment of 5.6 µB/f. u. indicates the high-spin d 5 configuration of manganese(II). We find hints for a long-range magnetic ordering below 10 K.

The structure contains [Pr(NCMe)3-?2(OTf)3-Pr(NCMe)3-?2(OTf)3] n (NCMe is acetonitrile; OTf is trifluoromethanesulfonate) chains parallel to the a axis. The Pr(III) atom is nine-coordinate in a distorted tricapped trigonal-prismatic environment.
