ABSTRACT: The least-squares planes defined by the aromatic moieties in the title aniline derivative, C(13)H(13)NS, are nearly perpendicular to each other, forming a dihedral angle of 87.80?(7)°. Apart from a weak intramolecular N-H?S hydrogen bond, a co-operative set of N-H?N hydrogen bonds present in the crystal structure leads to the formation of tetra-meric units.

Project description:There are two independent mol-ecules in the asymmetric unit of the title compound, C(19)H(24)S(2). In both mol-ecules, the aliphatic segment of the ligand is in an all-trans conformation: the -S-(CH(2))(5)-S-bridging chain is almost planar (r.m.s. deviation for all non-H atoms = 0.0393 and 0.0796?Å in the two mol-ecules) and maximally extended. Their mean planes form dihedral angles of 4.08?(6)/20.47?(6) and 2.22?(6)/58.19?(6)° with the aromatic rings in the two mol-ecules. The crystal packing is purely governed by weak inter-molecular forces.

The C-S-C-C torsion angles of the methyl-sulfanyl groups with their respective phenyl rings are -7.47?(13) and -72.07?(13)°. The shortest centroid-centroid distance of 3.707?Å occurs between the two ?-systems N-N-C-N-N and the benzene ring in the diazene 1-position. The H atom bound to the N atom is involved in intra-molecular N-H?N and N-H?S contacts, while the nitro O atoms are involved in inter-molecular C-H?O contacts.
