ABSTRACT: In the title compound, C(11)H(10)O(3), the benzodioxole ring adopts a flattened [puckering parameters: q(2) = 0.107?(2)?Å, ?(2) = 160?(1)°] envelope conformation with the methylene C atom as the flap. The crystal packing features chains, parallel to the c axis, composed of dimers connected by weak C-H-O hydrogen bonds and extending in layers in the bc plane.

The 13 non-H atoms of the benzodioxole and propenone units are approximately coplanar (r.m.s. deviation = 0.027 Å) and the bromo-benzene ring plane forms a dihedral angle of 10.8 (1)° to this plane. The structure is layered, with the mol-ecules forming a herring-bone arrangement within each layer.

In the crystal structure, inter-molecular Br?O inter-actions [3.187?(3)Å] give rise to chains parallel to the b axis. Adjacent chains are further linked along the a axis by C-H?? inter-actions. Project description:In the title mol-ecule, C(14)H(9)BrO(3)S, the the prop-2-en-1-one (enone) fragment is close to planar [C-C-C-O = 2.5?(7)°] and it subtends dihedral angles of 12.5?(3) and 5.3?(4)° with respect to the thio-phene and benzene rings, respectively. The dihedral angle between the aromatic ring systems is 12.60?(18)°. Two C-H?O inter-actions help to consolidate the non-centrosymmetic crystal packing, which features undulating (100) sheets incorporating C(11) and C(12) chain motifs.
