ABSTRACT: In the title compound, C(17)H(14)Br(2)N(2), the carbazole skeleton is nearly planar [maximum deviation = 0.055 (2) Å]. In the crystal, aromatic π-π stacking is observed between parallel carbazole ring systems of adjacent mol-ecules, the shortest centroid-centroid distance between benzene rings being 3.4769 (11) Å.

Project description:The title compound, C(19)H(12)Br(3)N, was synthesized by N-alkyl-ation of 1-bromo-4-(bromo-meth-yl)benzene with 3,6-dibromo-9H-carbazole. There are two unique mol-ecules in the asymmetric unit. The carbazole ring system is essentially planar, with a mean deviation of 0.0402 Å for one mol-ecule and 0.0279 Å for the other. The carbazole planes are inclined to the benzene ring planes at dihedral angles of 58.3 (3) and 71.1 (3)° in the two mol-ecules.

Project description:(-)-P7C3-S243 is a neuroprotective aminopropyl carbazole with improved druglike properties compared with previously reported compounds in the P7C3 class. It protects developing neurons in a mouse model of hippocampal neurogenesis and protects mature neurons within the substantia nigra in a mouse model of Parkinson's disease. A short, enantioselective synthesis provides the neuroprotective agent in optically pure form. It is nontoxic, orally bioavailable, metabolically stable, and able to cross the blood-brain barrier. As such, it represents a valuable lead compound for the development of drugs to treat neurodegenerative diseases and traumatic brain injury.

An intra-molecular N-H?N hydrogen bond forms an S(6) ring motif. One of the tert-butyl substituents shows rotational disorder over two sites with occupancies of 0.592?(3) and 0.408?(3). In the crystal, two mol-ecules are associated into an inversion dimer through a pair of C-H?? inter-actions. The dimers are further linked by another pair of C-H?? inter-actions, forming a ribbon along the c-axis direction.
