Pyridine-4-carbaldehyde 4-phenylsemicarbazone.

ABSTRACT: In the title compound, C(13)H(12)N(4)O, the semicarbazone fragment links a benzene and a pyridine ring in the structure. The crystal packing is stabilized by strong inter-molecular N-H?O hydrogen bonds, which connect two mol-ecules to form a synthon unit, and by N-H?N hydrogen bonds and weak C-H?? inter-actions. The mol-ecular conformation is stabil-ized by intra-molecular N-H?N and C-H?O inter-actions.

Together with the additional coordinating chloride anion, the coordination polyhedron of copper is best described as a distorted square-pyramid, the distortion parameter being 0.288. The two organic ligands are linked by an intramolecular O-H⋯O hydrogen bond.

Project description:The asymmetric unit of the title compound, C(7)H(8)N(4)S, contains two independent mol-ecules with slightly different conformations; the dihedral angles between the pyridine ring and mean plane of the thio-semicarbazone unit in the two mol-ecules are 2.88?(5) and 6.30?(5)°. Project description:In the title hydrate, C9H12N4S·H2O (systematic name: 3-methyl-1-{(E)-[(3-methyl-pyridin-2-yl)methyl-idene]amino}-thio-urea monohydrate), a small twist is noted between the pyridine ring and the rest of the organic mol-ecule [dihedral angle = 6.96 (5)°]. The imine and pyridine N atoms are syn, and the amine H atoms are anti. The latter arrangement allows for the formation of an intra-molecular N-H⋯N(imine) hydrogen bond. Both the N-bonded H atoms form hydrogen bonds to symmetry-related water mol-ecules, and the latter forms O-H hydrogen bonds with the pyridine N and thione S atoms. These inter-actions lead to supra-molecular layers that stack along the a-axis direction with no specific inter-actions between them.

The slightly distorted octa-hedral coordination is completed by two O atoms from ethanol mol-ecules. The crystal packing is accomplished inter-molecular N-H?S hydrogen bonds.
