[N-(3-Meth-oxy-2-oxidobenzyl-idene-?O)threoninato-?O,N](1,10-phenanthroline-?N,N')copper(II) hemihydrate.

ABSTRACT: In the title complex, [Cu(C(12)H(13)NO(5))(C(12)H(8)N(2))]·0.5H(2)O, the Cu(II) ion is five-coordinated by one N atom and two O atoms from a tridentate Schiff base ligand, derived from the condensation of l-threonine and o-vanillin, and two N atoms from a 1,10-phenanthroline ligand in a distorted square-pyramidal geometry. In the crystal, inter-molecular O-H?O hydrogen bonds form a one-dimensional left-handed helical structureextending parallel to [001]. The water molecule of crystallization shows half-occupancy.

Project description:The asymmetric unit of the title complex, [Cu(C(14)H(17)NO(4))(C(12)H(8)N(2))]·H(2)O, contains two independent Cu(II) complex mol-ecules and two uncoordinated water mol-ecules. In each complex mol-ecule, the Cu atom is O,N,O'-chelated by the tridentate Schiff base ligand and N,N'-chelated by the 1,10-phenanthroline ligand in a distorted square-pyramidal geometry. The Cu-N bond distances in the apical directions are 2.298?(4) and 2.268?(4)?Å. In the crystal, inter-molecular O-H?O and C-H?O hydrogen bonds together with C-H?? inter-actions result in a three-dimensional supra-molecular structure.

Project description:The ligand N-(2-hydr-oxy-3-methoxy-benzyl-idene)glycylglycine (H(3)L), a Schiff base derived from glycylglycine and 3-methoxy-salicylaldehyde, was used in the synthesis of a new organic-inorganic coordination complex, [Mn(H(2)O)(6)][Cu(C(12)H(11)N(2)O(5))](2)·6H(2)O. The Mn(II) atom is located on an inversion center and is coordinated to six water mol-ecules in a slightly distorted octa-hedral geometry. The Cu(II) atom is chelated by the tetra-dentate Schiff base ligand in a distorted CuN(2)O(2) square-planar coordination. In the crystal structure, the complex [Mn(H(2)O)(6)](2+) cations and the [CuL](-) anions are arranged in columns parallel to the a axis and are held together by O-H⋯O hydrogen bonding. Additional hydrogen bonds of the same type further link the columns into a three-dimensional network.
