Catena-Poly[[bis-(2-amino-ethane-sulfon-ato-?N,O)nickel(II)]-?-1,4-bis-(1H-imid-azol-1-yl)benzene-?N:N].

ABSTRACT: In the hydro-thermally prepared title coordination polymer, [Ni(C(2)H(6)NO(3)S)(2)(C(12)H(10)N(4))](n), the Ni(II) ion and the 1,4-bis-(1H-imidazol-1-yl)benzene ligand occupy special positions on inversion centers. The metal ion shows a slightly distorted octa-hedral coordination geometry, being linked to two N atoms of two 1,4-bis-(imidazol-1-yl)benzene ligands and to two O and two N atoms of two chelating 2-amino-ethane-sulfonate ligands. The 1,4-bis-(imidazol-1-yl)benzene ligands bridge symmetry-related Ni(II) ions forming polymeric chains along the [110] direction.

Project description:The title compound, C20H14N4, is a new polymorph of the previously reported structures, which were ortho-rhom-bic, space group Pbca [Bei et al. (2000). Acta Cryst. C56, 718-719] and monoclinic, space group P21/c [Dudd et al. (2003). Green Chem. 5, 187-192]. The asymmetric unit consists of two independent mol-ecules in which the dihedral angels between the central benzene ring and the outer benzimidazole ring systems are 16.81?(10) and 14.23?(10)° in one molecule and 26.09?(10) and 37.29?(10)° in the other. In the crystal, mol-ecules are linked by N-H?N and C-H?N hydrogen bonds into a tape running along the c-axis direction.

The asymmetric unit contains one Cd(II) atom, one benzene-1,4-dicarboxyl-ate anion, one 1,10-phenanthroline ligand, one coordinated water mol-ecule and half of an uncoordinated benzene-1,4-dicaboxylic acid solvent mol-ecule. The Cd(II) atom is in the centre of a monocapped distorted octa-hedron made up of four O atoms of two chelating benzene-1,4-dicarboxyl-ate anions, one water O atom and two 1,10-phenanthroline N atoms. The metal centres are connected via bis-chelating benzene-1,4-dicarboxyl-ate anions into a zigzag chain structure along [001]. These chains are further connected by O-H?O hydrogen bonds between the water mol-ecules and adjacent carboxyl-ate O atoms. Additional O-H?O hydrogen bonding between the uncoordinated benzene-1,4-dicaboxylic acid mol-ecules along [010] consolidates the structure.

Project description:The title coordination polymer, {[Co2(C15H7O7)(OH)(C14H14N4)]·0.25H2O} n , was synthesized under hydro-thermal conditions. The asymmetric unit contains two Co(2+) ions, one L (3-) anion originating from 5-(4-carb-oxy-phen-oxy)isophthalic acid (H3 L), one OH(-) ligand, one 1,4-bis-[(1H-imidazol-l-yl)meth-yl]benzene (bix) ligand and one disordered lattice water mol-ecule (occupancy 0.25). The two Co(2+) ions have different environments. One has an octa-hedral O4N2 coordin-ation sphere, defined by four O atoms from three carboxyl-ate groups and one OH(-) ligand, and two N atoms from two symmetry-related bix ligands. The other has a trigonal-bipyramidal O5 coordination sphere resulting from three carboxyl-ate groups and two OH(-) ligands. The dihedral angles between the two benzene rings in the L (3-) ligand and between the benzene ring and the two imidazole rings in the bix ligand are 67.05?(15), 75.27?(17) and 82.05?(17)°, respectively. Four neighbouring Co(2+) ions are linked by six carboxyl-ate groups and two ? 3-OH ligands, forming a butterfly-shaped secondary building unit (SBU). These SBUs are connected by L (3-) anions into layers parallel to (1-10). Adjacent layers are cross-linked by the bix ligands, forming a three-dimensional framework that has a bimodal (3,8)-connected tfz-d topology. The disordered lattice water mol-ecule is located in the voids of the framework and has O?O and O?N contacts of 2.81?(2) and 2.95?(2)?Å, suggesting medium-strength hydrogen bonds. The title compound may be a good candidate for artificial eye lenses.
