Catena-Poly[[tetra-aqua-[trans-1,2-bis-(4-pyrid-yl)ethene-?N:N']nickel(II)] dinitrate].

ABSTRACT: In the title compound, {[Ni(C(12)H(10)N(2))(H(2)O)(4)](NO(3))(2)}(n), the Ni(II) ion, lying on a crystallographic inversion center, has a distorted octa-hedral coordination sphere comprising four water ligands and two N-atom donors from the trans-related 1,2-bis-(4-pyrid-yl)ethene ligands, which also have crystallographic inversion symmetry. These ligands bridge the Ni(II) complex units, forming chains extending along the [110] and [[Formula: see text]10] directions. The nitrate counter-anions stabilize the crystal structure through water-nitrate O-H?O hydrogen bonds.

Project description:The asymmetric unit of the title compound, {(C(5)H(7)N(2))(2)[Ni(C(10)H(2)O(8))(H(2)O)(4)]·2H(2)O}(n), contains an Ni(II) atom, two water mol-ecules of coordination, one half of a benzene-1,2,4,5-tetra-carboxyl-ate (btec) anionic ligand, one 4-amino-pyridinium cation (papy) and an uncoordinated water mol-ecule. The metal center lies on an inversion center and adopts an octa-hedral geometry with the carboxyl-ate groups tilted out of the mean plane formed by the btec. In the crystal, mol-ecules are linked into one-dimensional coordination polymers running along the ac diagonal. The crystal structure is consolidated by N-H?O and O-H?O hydrogen bonds.

Project description:In the title polymeric complex, {[Fe(C12H10N2)2(H2O)4](CH3C6H4SO3)2·2CH3OH} n , the FeII cation, located on an inversion centre, is coordinated by four water mol-ecules in the equatorial positions and two 1,2-bis-(pyridin-4-yl)ethene mol-ecules in the axial positions. This results in a distorted octa-hedral geometry for the [N2O4] coordination polyhedron. The 1,2-bis-(pyridin-4-yl)ethene mol-ecules bridge the FeII cations, forming polymeric chains running along the a-axis direction. Stabilization of the crystal structure is provided by O-H?O hydrogen bonds; these are formed by coordinated water mol-ecules as donors towards the O atoms of the methanol mol-ecules and tosyl-ate anions as acceptors of protons, leading to the formation of a three-dimensional supra-molecular network. Weak C-H?O hydrogen bonds are also observed in the crystal.

The 9,10-dioxo-9,10-dihydro-anthracene-1,4,5,8-tetra-carboxyl-ate anion is centrosymmetric with the centroid of the quinone ring located about an inversion center; the 4,4'-bipyridine ligand is also centrosymmetric with the mid-point of the C-C bond linking two pyridine rings located about another invertion center. The 9,10-dioxo-9,10-dihydro-anthracene-1,4,5,8-tetra-carboxyl-ate anion and bypiridine ligand bridge the Ni(II) cations, forming a polymeric chain along the b axis. ?-? stacking is observed between pyridine and benzene rings [centroid-centroid distance = 3.705?(2)?Å]. All of the coordinating water mol-ecules are involved in O-H?O hydrogen bonding.
