New species of the genus Cyamops Melander from New Zealand (Diptera, Periscelididae, Stenomicrinae).

ABSTRACT: Two new species of the genus Cyamops (Diptera: Periscelididae), the first from New Zealand, are described. The two newly described species are: Cyamops alessandrae and Cyamops crosbyi. A key to the genera of the subfamily Stenomicrinae and to the species of Cyamops from the Australasian/Oceanian Region and detailed illustrations of structures of the male terminalia are provided.

Three new species of the genus Philopteroides Mey, 2004 (Phthiraptera, Ischnocera, Philopteridae) from New Zealand.

Project description:We describe and illustrate three new species of chewing lice in the genus Philopteroides parasitic on passerines (Order Passeriformes, families Acanthizidae, Rhipiduridae and Petroicidae) from New Zealand. They are: Philopteroides pilgrimi sp. n. from Gerygone igata igata; Philopteroides fuliginosus sp. n. from Rhipidura fuliginosa placabilis and Rhipidura fuliginosa fuliginosa; and Philopteroides macrocephalus sp. n. from Petroica macrocephala macrocephala and Petroica macrocephala dannefaerdi. The identity of Docophorus lineatus Giebel, 1874 is discussed based on its morphology and host association. We also transfer Tyranniphilopterus beckeri to the genus Philopteroides, and provide a key to identify adults of 12 of the 13 species now included in Philopteroides.

Project description:Emesopsisinfenestra Tatarnic, Wall & Cassis, 2011 (Heteroptera: Reduviidae) is reported from New Zealand for the first time, based on a single specimen collected alive in the wild in Auckland in June 2013. The species was previously known only from Australia (Queensland) and the Loyalty Islands (New Caledonia).

Project description:A new endemic genus and seven new species of New Zealand pselaphine staphylinid beetles of the supertribe Faronitae are described as follows: Pseudoexeirarthra Park & Carlton, gen. n. (type species: Sagolaspinifer Broun); Pseudoexeirarthrasungmini Park & Carlton, sp. n.; Pseudoexeirarthrakwangguki Park & Carlton, sp. n.; Pseudoexeirarthrayoungboki Park & Carlton, sp. n.; Pseudoexeirarthraseiwoongi Park & Carlton, sp. n.; Pseudoexeirarthraparkeri Park & Carlton, sp. n.; Pseudoexeirarthrahlavaci Park & Carlton, sp. n.; Pseudoexeirarthranomurai Park & Carlton, sp. n. Three species, Sagolaspinifer Broun, Sagolacolorata Broun, and Sagolapuncticollis Broun, are transferred to the genus Pseudoexeirarthra. Six species are synonymized: Sagoladilucida Broun, Sagolaguinnessi Broun, Sagolalongicollis Broun, Sagolalongula Broun, and Sagolarectipennis Broun under Pseudoexeirarthraspinifer (Broun); Sagolainsueta Broun under Sagolacolorata (Broun). A lectotype is designated for Pseudoexeirarthraspinifer (Broun). A key, habitus photographs, line drawings of diagnostic characters, and distribution maps are provided for each species.

Project description:Palpilongus gen. n. is herein described for one species - Palpilongus bifurcus sp. n., from Costa Rica, based on male and females. The striking morphological characters of the species - palpus very long, about as long as prementum; upper calypter truncate and very short and setae of male sternite 5 bifurcated, confirm that this new species is also a new genus in the tribe Coenosiini. Male and female terminalia were dissected and illustrated.

Toxomerus circumcintus (Enderlein, 1938) is treated as a valid species and not considered synonym of Toxomerus marginatus, and Toxomerus ovatus (Hull, 1942) is considered junior synonym of Toxomerus nitidus (Schiner, 1868). An identification key for the Toxomerus species with dark abdomens is given along with diagnoses for each studied species.
