Complete genome sequences of four mammalian isolates of Chlamydophila psittaci.

ABSTRACT: Chlamydia psittaci is an obligate intracellular zoonotic pathogen primarily of birds, but it is also known to infect a variety of mammalian species. Here we report the genomes of four strains isolated from sheep (C19/98), pigs (01DC11), cattle (02DC15), and humans (08DC60).

Genome sequence of the zoonotic pathogen Chlamydophila psittaci.

Project description:We present the first genome sequence of Chlamydophila psittaci, an intracellular pathogen of birds and a human zoonotic pathogen. A comparison with previously sequenced Chlamydophila genomes shows that, as in other chlamydiae, most of the genome diversity is restricted to the plasticity zone. The C. psittaci plasmid was also sequenced.

Pacific BioSciences single-molecule real-time (SMRT) sequencing technology was used as the sole method of sequence determination and assembly. The chromosomes exhibited a G+C content of 44.1 to 44.2% and a molecular size range of 4.29 to 4.67 Mbp.
