ABSTRACT: The title compound, C(12)H(14)O(3), consists of a chromanone unit with an -OH substituent at the 4-position and methyl substituents on the remaining C atoms of the aromatic ring. The fused pyran-one ring adopts a distorted envelope conformation with the methyl-ene group adjacent to the carbonyl carbon as the flap atom. The crystal structure is stabilized by classical O-H?O hydrogen bonds and weak C-H?O and C-H?? inter-actions, generating a three-dimensional network.

In the crystal, inter-molecular O-H?O hydrogen bonds link mol-ecules into chains along [100]. These chains are inter-connected by weak inter-molecular C-H?O contacts which generate R(2) (2)(8) ring motifs, forming sheets parallel to (001). Tetra-gonal symmetry generates an equivalent motif along b. Project description:In the racemic title compound, C16H14O3, the ring of the 4-hy-droxy-benzyl substituent group forms a dihedral angle of 80.12 (12)° with the benzene ring of the chromanone system. Two C atoms of the pyran-one ring and the H atoms on the benzyl α-C atom are disordered over two sites, with site-occupation factors of 0.818 (8) and 0.182 (8). The crystal structure is stabilized by O-H⋯O hydrogen bonds, which form parallel one-dimensional zigzag chains down the c axis and are inter-connected by both methine C-H⋯O hydrogen bonds and weak aromatic C-H⋯π inter-actions, giving a sheet structure lying parallel to [011].

Project description:The synthesis and crystal structures of (E)-3-(4-hy-droxy-benzyl-idene)chroman-4-one, C16H12O3, I, and (E)-3-(3-hy-droxy-benzyl-idene)-2-phenyl-chroman-4-one, C22H16O3, II, are reported. These compounds are of inter-est with respect to biological activity. Both structures display inter-molecular C-H⋯O and O-H⋯O hydrogen bonding, forming layers in the crystal lattice. The crystal structure of compound I is consolidated by π-π inter-actions. The lipophilicity (logP) was determined as it is one of the parameters qualifying compounds as potential drugs. The logP value for compound I is associated with a larger contribution of C⋯H inter-action in the Hirshfeld surface.

Project description:The title compound, C22H22OS [systematic name: 4-(1,3,3-trimethyl-2,3-di-hydro-1H-4-thia-phenanthren-1-yl)phenol], crystallizes unsolvated from nitro-methane as colourless prisms (m.p. 425-427?K) in the polar monoclinic space group Ia with Z' = 2 (mol-ecules A and B). Both independent mol-ecules possess a very similar proximal conformation, this referring to the juxtaposition of the 4-hy-droxy-phenyl substituent with respect to the syn-related methyl group. In the crystal, mol-ecule A is linked to mol-ecule B by an O-H?O hydrogen bond. In turn, mol-ecule B exhibits a weak O-H?? inter-action with the phenolic group of mol-ecule A related by a-glide symmetry. Together, these lead to [100] chains.

Project description:The crystal structure of the title water-soluble analogue of vitamin E, trolox amide, C(14)H(19)NO(3), solved and refined against synchrotron diffraction data, contains two mol-ecules in the asymmetric unit. In both molecules, the heterocyclic ring is in a half-chair conformation. The crystal packing features a herring-bone pattern generated by N-H⋯O hydrogen bonds between the hy-droxy and amide groups. O-H⋯O hydrogen bonds also occur.
