Sodium p-toluenesulfinate tetra-hydrate.

ABSTRACT: The title compound, Na(+)·C(7)H(7)O(2)S(-)·4H(2)O, is the hydrate of the sodium salt of para-toluene-sulfinic acid. The mol-ecular geometry around the sulfur atom is tetra-hedral with X-S-Y angles spanning a range of 102.23?(6)-110.04?(6)°. In the crystal, the water mol-ecules connect the sodium cations into chains along the b axis via O-H?O hydrogen bonds. An inter-molecular O-H?? inter-action is also observed.

Project description:The title compound (NH(4))(4)[Mo(8)O(24)(O(2))(2)(H(2)O)(2)]·4H(2)O, consists of an octa-molybdate cluster with a crystallographic centre of symmetry. The clusters pack in a cubic close packing arrangement defining channels containing water mol-ecules and ammonium cations, which exhibit hydrogen bonding with neighbouring clusters. Hydrogen bonding also exists between the coordinated water mol-ecules of one cluster with one of the O atoms of the peroxido fragment in a neighbouring cluster.

Project description:Rochelle salt, K(+)·Na(+)·C(4)H(4)O(6) (2-)·4H(2)O, is known for its remarkable ferroelectric state between 255 and 297 K. The current investigation, based on data collected at 105 K, provides very accurate structural information for the low-temperature paraelectric form. Unlike the ferroelectric form, there is only one tartrate molecule in the asymmetric unit, and the structure displays no disorder to large anisotropic atomic displacements.

Project description:The title compound, Na(2)Cu(3)(SeO(3))(4)(H(2)O)(4), has been prepared under hydro-thermal conditions. The crystal structure contains a three-dimensional anionic framework made up from distorted [CuO(4)(H(2)O)(2)] octa-hedra ( symmetry), [CuO(4)(H(2)O)] square pyramids and trigonal-pyramidal SeO(3) units sharing common corners. The connectivity among these units leads to four- and eight-membered polyhedral rings, which by edge-sharing inter-connect into walls. A rhombus-like 16-membered polyhedral ring channel system with a longest length of approximately 14.0?Å and a shortest length of 5.3?Å is enclosed by such walls along the a axis. The water mol-ecules attached to the Cu atoms, as well as the electron lone pairs of the Se(IV) atoms, protrude into these channels. The seven-coordinated Na(+) counter-cations occupy the remaining free space of the 16-membered polyhedral ring channels. An intricate network of O-H?O hydrogen bonds further consolidates the three-dimensional structure.

Project description:The title compound, {(C(2)H(10)N(2))(1.5)[Y(C(4)O(4))(3)(H(2)O)(4)]}(n) {system-atic name: catena-poly[sesqui(ethyl-enediammonium) [[tetra-aquabis-(squarato-?O)yttrium(III)]-?-squarato-?(2)O:O']]}, was synthesized by slow evaporation of an acid solution. The asymetric unit contains one yttrium cation in an anti-prismatic environnement, three squarate groups, one and a half protonated ethyl-enediamine mol-ecules and four water mol-ecules. YO(8) polyhedra are connected through bis-(mono-dentate) squarates, leading to infinite zigzag chains, in between which are located ammonium groups. A framework of hydrogen bonds between protonated amine N atoms, water mol-ecules and squarate anions ensures the cohesion of the structure.

Project description:In the title compound, {(NH(4))(2)[Zn(C(8)H(6)O(8))]·4H(2)O}(n), the asymmetric unit contains one ammonium cation, half of a butane-1,2,3,4-tetra-carboxyl-ate anion, one Zn(2+) cation and two water mol-ecules. The butane-1,2,3,4-tetra-carboxyl-ate ligand is located about an inversion centre at the mid-point of the central C-C bond. The Zn(2+) cation is situated on a twofold rotation axis and is surrounded by four O atoms from four symmetry-related butane-1,2,3,4-tetra-carboxyl-ate anions in a distorted tetra-hedral environment. In turn, each anion coordinates to four Zn(2+) cations. The bridging mode of the anions leads to a three-dimensional framework structure with channels extending along [110] and [010] in which the ammonium cations and the water mol-ecules are located. N-H?O and O-H?O hydrogen bonding between the cations and water mol-ecules and the uncoordinating O atoms of the carboxyl-ate groups consolidates the crystal packing.
