In bile duct-ligated (BDL) rats, cholangiocyte proliferation is regulated by neuroendocrine factors such as α-calcitonin gene-related peptide (α-CGRP). There is no evidence that the sensory neuropeptide substance P (SP) regulates cholangiocyte hyperplasia.
