Phosphoinositide (PI) lipids are essential components of eukaryotic cell membranes. They are produced by mono-, bis- and trisphosphorylation of the inositol headgroup of phosphatidylinositol (PtdIns) and are concentrated in separate pools of cytosolic membranes.
