Bis{N-methyl-N'-[1-(pyridin-2-yl)ethyl-idene]ethane-1,2-diamine}-zinc bis-(perchlorate).

ABSTRACT: The title mononuclear zinc(II) complex, [Zn(C(10)H(15)N(3))(2)](ClO(4))(2), was obtained by the reaction of 2-acetyl-pyridine, N-methyl-ethane-1,2-diamine and zinc perchlorate in methanol. The asymmetric unit of the complex contains two independent [Zn(C(10)H(15)N(3))(2)](2+) cations and four perchlorate anions. The Zn(II) atom in each complex cation is six-coordinated by two pyridine N, two imine N and two amine N atoms from two N-methyl-N'-[1-(pyridin-2-yl)ethyl-idene]ethane-1,2-diamine Schiff base ligands in a distorted octa-hedral geometry. The pyridine rings in each of the complex cations are approximately perpendicular to each other, making dihedral angles of 88.4?(3) and 87.9?(3)°. The perchlorate anions are linked to the complex cations through N-H?O hydrogen bonds.

Project description:In the title compound, [Zn(NCS)(2)(C(10)H(15)N(3))], the Zn atom is five-coordinated by the three N-donor atoms of the Schiff base ligand and by two N atoms from two thio-cyanate anions, forming a distorted ZnN(5) trigonal-bipyramidal coordination geometry for the metal ion. The side chain of the ligand is disordered over two sets of sites in a 0.655?(12):0.345?(12) ratio. In the crystal, mol-ecules are linked by N-H?S hydrogen bonds, generating [100] chains.

Project description:In the title salt, [Zn(2)(C(2)H(8)N(2))(5)](ClO(4))(4), an ethyl-enediamine mol-ecule bridges two bis-(ethyl-enediamine)-zinc units; the five-coordinate Zn atoms show a trigonal-bipyramidal coordination geometry that is distorted towards square-pyramidal (that of one Zn atom is distorted by 12% and that of the other by 34%). The perchlorate ions are all disordered over two positions in a 1:1 ratio. The cation inter-acts weakly with the anion by N-H⋯O hydrogen bonds, generating a three-dimensional network.

Project description:In the title compound, [Zn(NCS)(C(16)H(18)N(4))]ClO(4), the Zn(II) atom is five-coordinated by four N atoms of the Schiff base ligand N,N'-bis-[1-(2-pyrid-yl)ethyl-idene]ethane-1,2-diamine in the basal plane, and by the N atom of a thio-cyanate ligand at the apical position, forming a distorted square-pyramidal geometry. The r.m.s. deviation from a plane through the four N atoms of the Schiff base is 0.015?(3)?Å, and the deviation of the Ni atom from that plane is 0.591?(2)?Å. Bond lengths are comparable with those observed in similar zinc(II) complexes with Schiff bases. The two methyl-ene C atoms of the ethane-1,2-diamine bridge of the Schiff base ligand are disordered over two sites with occupancies of 0.587?(3) and 0.413?(3).

Project description:Two independent half-mol-ecules, each being completed by inversion symmetry, comprise the asymmetric unit of the title compound, C(14)H(16)N(2)S(2). The major difference between the mol-ecules is found in the central C-C bond [the C-N-C-C torsion angles are 114.66?(18) and 128.94?(18)° in the two mol-ecules]. The thio-phene and imine groups are almost co-planar in each case [S-C-C-N torsion angles = -6.9?(2) and -3.6?(2)°]. In the crystal, the mol-ecules aggregate into supra-molecular chains via C-H?? inter-actions.

The Mn atom is chelated by two atoms N atoms of this bridging ligand, and is also coordinated by four N atoms of another ligand. The Mn atom is seven-coordinated in a penta-gonal-bipyramidal environment. The crystal structure displays inter-molecular π-π inter-actions between adjacent pyridine rings, with a shortest centroid-centroid distance of 3.784 (3) Å. In the crystal, the three-dimensional architecture is consolidated by C-H⋯N, C-H⋯π and S⋯S [3.3932 (7) Å] inter-actions.

The packing of the cations and anions forms voids of 258 Å(3), which are filled by methanol and solvent water mol-ecules with half occupancies. O-H⋯O hydrogen bonds between solvent molecules, perchlorate anions and water molecules, and between water molecules and O atoms of the ligand, help to consolidate the crystal packing.
