ABSTRACT: In the title compound, [Fe(C(5)H(5))(C(5)H(6)O(3)P)], the phosphate group is bonded to the ferrocene unit with a P-C bond length of 1.749?(3)?Å. In the crystal, six ferrocenyl-phospho-nic acid mol-ecules are connected by 12 strong inter-molecular O-H?O hydrogen bonds, leading to the formation of a highly distorted octa-hedral cage. The volume of the octa-hedral cage is about 270?Å(3).

The asymmetric unit contains one mol-ecule, which exists as a zwitterion with a positive charge on the -NH(3) group and a negative charge on one of the phospho-nic O atoms. The crystal structure displays N-H⋯O and O-H⋯O hydrogen bonding, which creates a three-dimensional network.

Project description:A new metal-organic framework compound, poly[[?7-dihydrogen (4,5-di-cyano-1,2-phenyl-ene)diphospho-nato]-(oxonium)caesium], [Cs(C8H4N2O6P2)(H3O)] n (I), based on Cs+ and the organic linker 4,5-di-cyano-1,2-phenyl-ene)bis-(phospho-nic acid, (H4cpp), containing two distinct coordinating functional groups, has been prepared by a simple diffusion method and its crystal structure is reported. The coordination polymeric structure is based on a CsO8N2 complex unit comprising a monodentate hydro-nium cation, seven O-atom donors from two phospho-nium groups of the (H2cpp)2- ligand, and two N-atom donors from bridging cyano groups. The high level of connectivity from both the metal cation and the organic linker allow the formation of a compact and dense three-dimensional network without any crystallization solvent. Topologically (I) is a seven-connected uninodal network with an overall Schäfli symbol of {417.64}. Metal cations form an undulating inorganic layer, which is linked by strong and highly directional O-H?O hydrogen-bonding inter-actions. These metallic layers are, in turn, connected by the organic ligands along the [010] direction to form the overall three-dimensional framework structure.

Project description:In the title compound, [AuFe(C(5)H(5))(C(5)H(5)O(2)PS)(C(18)H(15)P)]·CH(2)Cl(2), the two-coordinate gold(I) atom shows a slightly distorted linear arrangement, with a P-Au-S bond angle of 176.81 (6)°. The difference in P=O and P-O(H) bond lengths, which are 1.503 (6) and 1.541 (5) Å, respectively, implies there is apparently no delocalization between the P-O bonds, and the proton appears to be localized on one O atom only. In the crystal structure, inter-molecular O-H⋯O hydrogen bonds link dinuclear mol-ecules into chains propagated in the [010] direction. The dichloro-methane solvent mol-ecule was disordered between two positions in a 0.63 (3):0.37 (3) ratio.

Project description:The structure of the title compound, C(28)H(32)N(4)O(3)P(2), has been redetermined at 150 K, with much improved precision. The structure and mol-ecular packing of the title compound was previously determined using Cu Kα radiation, with an R value of 0.0933 [Cameron et al. (1978 ▶). Z. Naturforsch. Teil B, 33, 728-730]. The c-axis length in this structure [13.8401 (8) Å] is almost half that reported in the original study. In the title compound, two (C(6)H(4)(2-CH(3))NH)(2)P(O) units are bridged via an O atom [P-O-P = 133.31 (11)°]. The P atoms adopt a slightly distorted tetra-hedral coordination geometry. In the crystal, mol-ecules are linked via N-H⋯OP hydrogen bonds into extended chains parallel to the c axis. An intra-molecular N-H⋯O=P hydrogen bond is also found in the mol-ecule.

Deciphering the genetic determinants for aerobic nicotinic acid degradation: the nic cluster from Pseudomonas putida KT2440.

Project description:The aerobic catabolism of nicotinic acid (NA) is considered a model system for degradation of N-heterocyclic aromatic compounds, some of which are major environmental pollutants; however, the complete set of genes as well as the structural-functional relationships of most of the enzymes involved in this process are still unknown. We have characterized a gene cluster (nic genes) from Pseudomonas putida KT2440 responsible for the aerobic NA degradation in this bacterium and when expressed in heterologous hosts. The biochemistry of the NA degradation through the formation of 2,5-dihydroxypyridine and maleamic acid has been revisited, and some gene products become the prototype of new types of enzymes with unprecedented molecular architectures. Thus, the initial hydroxylation of NA is catalyzed by a two-component hydroxylase (NicAB) that constitutes the first member of the xanthine dehydrogenase family whose electron transport chain to molecular oxygen includes a cytochrome c domain. The Fe(2+)-dependent dioxygenase (NicX) converts 2,5-dihydroxypyridine into N-formylmaleamic acid, and it becomes the founding member of a new family of extradiol ring-cleavage dioxygenases. Further conversion of N-formylmaleamic acid to formic and maleamic acid is catalyzed by the NicD protein, the only deformylase described so far whose catalytic triad is similar to that of some members of the alpha/beta-hydrolase fold superfamily. This work allows exploration of the existence of orthologous gene clusters in saprophytic bacteria and some pathogens, where they might stimulate studies on their role in virulence, and it provides a framework to develop new biotechnological processes for detoxification/biotransformation of N-heterocyclic aromatic compounds.

Ferrocenyl-Pyrenes, Ferrocenyl-9,10-Phenanthrenediones, and Ferrocenyl-9,10-Dimethoxyphenanthrenes: Charge-Transfer Studies and SWCNT Functionalization.

Project description:The synthesis of 1-Fc- (3), 1-Br-6-Fc- (5 a), 2-Br-7-Fc- (7 a), 1,6-Fc2 - (5 b), 2,7-Fc2 -pyrene (7 b), 3,6-Fc2 -9,10-phenanthrenedione (10), and 3,6-Fc2 -9,10-dimethoxyphenanthrene (12; Fc=Fe(η5 -C5 H4 )(η5 -C5 H5 )) is discussed. Of these compounds, 10 and 12 form 1D or 2D coordination polymers in the solid state. (Spectro)Electrochemical studies confirmed reversible Fc/Fc+ redox events between -130 and 160 mV. 1,6- and 2,7-Substitution in 5 a (E°'=-130 mV) and 7 a (E°'=50 mV) influences the redox potentials, whereas the ones of 5 b and 7 b (E°'=20 mV) are independent. Compounds 5 b, 7 b, 10, and 12 show single Fc oxidation processes with redox splittings between 70 and 100 mV. UV/Vis/NIR spectroelectrochemistry confirmed a weak electron transfer between FeII /FeIII in mixed-valent [5 b]+ and [12]+ . DFT calculations showed that 5 b non-covalently interacts with the single-walled carbon nanotube (SWCNT) sidewalls as proven by, for example, disentangling experiments. In addition, CV studies of the as-obtained dispersions confirmed exohedral attachment of 5 b at the SWCNTs.
