Project description:The title structure, (C(11)H(20)BrN(2))[Ag(CN)(2))], is built up from an approximately C(2v)-symmetric imidazolium cation and a nearly linear dicyanidoargentate anion [N-Ag-N = 176.6?(9)° and Ag-C-N = 178.8?(9) and 177.2?(11)°]. These two constituents are linked by a remarkably short inter-action between the Br atom of the imidazolium cation [C-Br = 1.85?(3)?Å] and one N atom of the cyanidoargentate anion [Br?N = 2.96?(2)?Å], which is much less than the sum of the van der Waals radii (3.40?Å). The crystal studied was twinned by merohedry.

Project description:In the title compound, [Fe(C11H20N2)2(CO)3], the Fe atom shows a distorted trigonal-bipyramidal geometry with three carbonyl and two carbene ligands. The latter have a cis arrangement, with a C-Fe-C angle of 90.60?(7)°. The Fe atom lies 0.007?(1)?Å above the basal plane defined by two carbonyl and one carbene C atoms. The mol-ecular structure is closely related to that of the isomolecular but not isotypic Ru complex with an identical cis arrangement, so, in general, bond geometries lie in expected ranges. In the crystal, C-H?O hydrogen bonds link the mol-ecules into infinite zigzag chains extending along [010].

1,2-Diiodo-4,5-dimethyl-benzene.

Project description:The structure of the title compound, C(8)H(8)I(2), conforms closely to the mm2 symmetry expected for the free mol-ecule and is the first reported structure of a diiodo-dimethyl-benzene. Repulsion by neighboring I atoms and the neighboring methyl groups opposite to them results in a slight elongation of the mol-ecule along the approximate twofold rotation axis that bis-ects the ring between the two I atoms. In the extended structure, the mol-ecules form inversion-related pairs which are organized in approximately hexa-gonal close-packed layers and the layers then stacked so that mol-ecules in neighboring layers abut head-to-tail in a manner that optimizes dipole-dipole inter-actions.

Crystal structure of di-chlorido-bis-(1,3-diisopropyl-4,5-dimethyl-2H-imidazole-2-thione-?S)zinc(II).

Project description:The mol-ecular structure of the title compound, [ZnCl2(C11H20N2S)2], shows tetra-hedral Zn coordination from two Cl ligands and two thione groups. The Zn-Cl bond lengths differ sligthly at 2.2310?(10) and 2.2396?(11)?Å while the Zn-S bond lengths are equal at 2.3663?(9) and 2.3701?(10)?Å. The Cl-Zn-Cl angle is 116.04?(4) and S-Zn-S is 101.98?(3)°. All other angles at the central Zn atom range from 108.108?(3) to 110.21?(4)°. The C-S-Zn angles are 100.75?(10) and 103.68?(11)°, the difference most probably resulting from packing effects, as both the C-S and both the S-Zn bonds are equal in each case. The two imidazole ring planes make a dihedral angle of 67.9?(1)°. The CH3 groups of one isopropyl moiety are disordered over two sets of sites with occupation factors of 0.567?(15) and 0.433?(15). It may be noteworthy that the isomolecular Cu complex shows a different crystal packing (group-subgroup relation) with the Cu atom lying on a twofold rotation axis. In the crystal, the shortest non-bonding contact is a C-H?Cl inter-action. This leads to the formation of centrosymmetric dimers that are stacked along the c-axis.

Crystal structures of sodium-, lithium-, and ammonium 4,5-di-hydroxy-benzene-1,3-di-sulfonate (tiron) hydrates.

Project description:The solid-state structures of the Na+, Li+, and NH4+ salts of the 4,5-di-hydroxy-benzene-1,3-di-sulfonate (tiron) dianion are reported, namely disodium 4,5-di-hydroxy-benzene-1,3-di-sulfonate, 2Na+·C6H4O8S22-, μ-4,5-di-hydroxy-benzene-1,3-di-sulfonato-bis-[aqua-lithium(I)] hemihydrate, [Li2(C6H4O8S2)(H2O)2]·0.5H2O, and di-ammonium 4,5-di-hydroxy-benzene-1,3-di-sulfonate monohydrate, 2NH4+·C6H4O8S22-·H2O. Inter-molecular inter-actions vary with the size of the cation, and the asymmetric unit cell, and the macromolecular features are also affected. The sodium in Na2(tiron) is coordinated in a distorted octa-hedral environment through the sulfonate oxygen and hydroxyl oxygen donors on tiron, as well as an inter-stitial water mol-ecule. Lithium, with its smaller ionic radius, is coordinated in a distorted tetra-hedral environment by sulfonic and phenolic O atoms, as well as water in Li2(tiron). The surrounding tiron anions coordinating to sodium or lithium in Na2(tiron) and Li2(tiron), respectively, result in a three-dimensional network held together by the coordinate bonds to the alkali metal cations. The formation of such a three-dimensional network for tiron salts is relatively rare and has not been observed with monovalent cations. Finally, (NH4)2(tiron) exhibits extensive hydrogen-bonding arrays between NH4+ and the surrounding tiron anions and inter-stitial water mol-ecules. This series of structures may be valuable for understanding charge transfer in a putative solid-state fuel cell utilizing tiron.

2,5-Dimethyl-1,3-dinitro-benzene.

Project description:The title compound, C(8)H(8)N(2)O(4), was prepared via the nitration of p-xylene. The mol-ecules are stacked along the c axis in an antiparallel manner. The two nitro groups are rotated relative to the benzene ring with dihedral angles of 44.50 (7) and 31.67 (8)°. The tilt of the nitro groups allows the formation of C-H⋯O inter-actions between the ring C-H and nitro groups of adjacent mol-ecules creating puckered sheets perpendicular to the c axis. The H atoms of the methyl group in the 5-position are disordered (60° rotation) with an occupancy of 0.616 (19) for the major component. The crystal was found to be a non-merohedral twin with a twin law [-1 -0.002 0.005, 0.00031 -1 0.002, 0.118 -0.007 1] corresponding to a rotation of 180° about the reciprocal axis (001) and refined to give a minor component fraction of 0.320 (2).

In the crystal, inter-molecular O-H?I hydrogen bonds result in the formation of a three-dimensional network and reinforce the cohesion of the ionic structure.
