Tetra-aqua-bis-(2-methyl-1H-imidazole-?N)cobalt(II) naphthalene-1,5-disulfonate.

ABSTRACT: In the title complex, [Co(C(4)H(6)N(2))(2)(H(2)O)(4)](C(10)H(6)O(6)S(2)), the cation and anion both reside on crystallographic inversion centers, such that the asymmetric unit comprises one half cation and one half anion. The central Co(II) ion is coordinated by four water mol-ecules and two 2-methyl-imidazole ligands, resulting in a trans-octa-hedral coordination geometry. The existence of strong N-H?O and O-H?O hydrogen-bonding inter-actions gives rise to a three-dimensional structure.

Project description:The asymmetric unit of the title compound, 2C(8)H(9)N(2) (+)·C(10)H(6)O(6)S(2) (2-), contains a 2-methyl-benzimidazolium cation and one half of a naphthalene-1,5-disulfonate anion. The formula unit is generated by an inversion center. In the crystal, N-H?O hydrogen bonds link the components into chains along [001]. In addition, weak C-H?O hydrogen bonds and weak C-H?? inter-actions are observed. The methyl H atoms were refined as disordered over two sets of sites with equal occupancy.

Project description:The triclinic unit cell of the title compound, [Ni(C(3)H(4)N(2))(2)(H(2)O)(4)](C(10)H(6)O(6)S(2)), contains one centrosymmetric cation and one centrosymmetric anion. In the cation, the Ni(II) ion is six-coordinated by two imidazole ligands [Ni-N = 2.0568 (14) Å] and four water mol-ecules [both independent Ni-O distances are 2.098 (1) Å] in a distorted octa-hedral geometry. Inter-molecular O-H⋯O and N-H⋯O hydrogen bonds form an extensive three-dimensional network, which consolidates the crystal packing.

The anion sits across a centre of symmetry. The atoms of the benzimidazole ring are nearly coplanar (r.m.s. deviation of the fitted atoms = 0.0085?Å) and the triflouromethyl group lies out of this plane. In the crystal, the cations are linked to adjacent anions by N-H?O hydrogen bonds, forming a ladder structure parallel to the a axis in which the anions form the rungs. Adjacent ladders are linked by weak C-H?O inter-actions, forming sheets parallel to the ac plane.

The NH(3) (+) functional groups are also involved in N-H⋯O hydrogen bonds with the water mol-ecules, forming an infinite three-dimensional framework in the crystal structure.
