Guanidinium 2-(myristoylsulfanyl)ethane-sulfonate.

ABSTRACT: In the title compound, CH(6)N(3) (+)·C(16)H(31)O(4)S(2) (-) [systematic name: guanidinium 2-(tetra-deca-noylsulfan-yl)ethane-sulfon-ate], each 2-(myristoyl-thio)-ethane-sulfonate ion displays hydrogen bonding to three guanidinium counter-ions, which themselves display hydrogen bonding to two symmetry-related 2-(myristoylthio)ethanesulfonate ions. Thus each cation forms six N-H⋯O bonds to neighboring anions, thereby self-assembling an extended ladder-type network. The average hydrogen-bond donor-acceptor distance is 2.931 (5) Å. The alkyl chains form the rungs of a ladder with hydrogen-bonding inter-actions forming the side rails.

The crystal structures of two novel polymorphs of bis-(oxonium) ethane-1,2-di-sulfonate.

Project description:Two novel crystal forms of bis-(oxonium) ethane-1,2-di-sulfonate, 2H3O-·C2H4O6S2 2-, are reported. Polymorph II has monoclinic (P21/n) symmetry, while the symmetry of form III is triclinic (P ). Both structures display extensive networks of O-H⋯O hydrogen bonds. While this network in Form II is similar to that observed for the previously reported Form I [Mootz & Wunderlich (1970 ▸). Acta Cryst. B26, 1820-1825; Sartori et al. (1994 ▸). Z. Naturforsch. 49, 1467-1472] and extends in all directions, in Form III it differs significantly, forming layers parallel to the ab plane. The sulfonate mol-ecule in all three forms adopts a nearly identical geometry. The other observed differences between the forms, apart from the hydrogen-bonding network, are observed in the crystal density and packing index.

N,N'-Bis(2-amino-benz-yl)ethane-1,2-diaminium bis-(4-methyl-benzene-sulfonate).

Project description:The title salt, C(16)H(24)N(4) (2+)·2C(7)H(7)O(3)S(-), crystallizes with the dication situated on an inversion center and the anion in a general position. The cation contains two ammonium and two free amine groups, and the observed conformation for the chain linking the benzene rings is different from that found in the free tetra-amine and in the fully protonated tetra-amine. All amine and ammonium H atoms of the cation form hydrogen bonds with eight symmetry-related anions, using the sulfonate O atoms as acceptors. This arrangement for the ions precludes any π-π contacts between benzene rings in the crystal.

Alterations of gene profiles in Leydig-cell-regenerating adult rat testis after ethane dimethane sulfonate-treatment.

Project description:Only occupying about 1%-5% of total testicular cells, the adult Leydig cell (ALC) is a unique endocrine cell that produces androgens. Rat Leydig cells regenerate after these cells in the testis are eliminated with ethane dimethane sulfonate (EDS). In this study, we have characterized Leydig cell regeneration and messenger ribonucleic acids (mRNA) profiles of EDS treated rat testes. Serum testosterone, testicular gene profiling and some steroidogenesis-related proteins were analyzed at 7, 21, 35 and 90 days after EDS treatment. Testicular testosterone levels declined to undetectable levels until 7 days after treatment and then started to recover. Seven days after treatment, 81 mRNAs were down-regulated greater than or equal to two-fold, with 48 becoming undetectable. These genes increased their expression 21 days and completely returned to normal levels 90 days after treatment. The undetectable genes include steroidogenic pathway proteins: steroidogenic acute regulatory protein, Scarb1, Cyp11a1, Cyp17a1, Hsd3b1, Cyp1b1 and Cyp2a1. Seven days after treatment, there were 89 mRNAs up-regulated two-fold or more including Pkib. These up-regulated mRNAs returned to normal 90 days after treatment. Cyp2a1 did not start to recover until 35 days after treatment, indicating that this gene is only expressed in ALCs not in the precursor cells. Quantitative polymerase chain reaction, western blotting and semi-quantitative immunohistochemical staining using tissue array confirmed the changes of several randomly picked genes and their proteins.

Time-Dependent DNA Origami Denaturation by Guanidinium Chloride, Guanidinium Sulfate, and Guanidinium Thiocyanate.

Project description:Guanidinium (Gdm) undergoes interactions with both hydrophilic and hydrophobic groups and, thus, is a highly potent denaturant of biomolecular structure. However, our molecular understanding of the interaction of Gdm with proteins and DNA is still rather limited. Here, we investigated the denaturation of DNA origami nanostructures by three Gdm salts, i.e., guanidinium chloride (GdmCl), guanidinium sulfate (Gdm2SO4), and guanidinium thiocyanate (GdmSCN), at different temperatures and in dependence of incubation time. Using DNA origami nanostructures as sensors that translate small molecular transitions into nanostructural changes, the denaturing effects of the Gdm salts were directly visualized by atomic force microscopy. GdmSCN was the most potent DNA denaturant, which caused complete DNA origami denaturation at 50 °C already at a concentration of 2 M. Under such harsh conditions, denaturation occurred within the first 15 min of Gdm exposure, whereas much slower kinetics were observed for the more weakly denaturing salt Gdm2SO4 at 25 °C. Lastly, we observed a novel non-monotonous temperature dependence of DNA origami denaturation in Gdm2SO4 with the fraction of intact nanostructures having an intermediate minimum at about 40 °C. Our results, thus, provide further insights into the highly complex Gdm-DNA interaction and underscore the importance of the counteranion species.

Project description:The title compound, [Au(2)(C(26)H(24)P(2))(2)](CF(3)SO(3))(2)·2CH(3)CN, comprises a cyclic cation with a short intra-molecular aurophilic inter-action of 2.9220 (3) Å. The trifluoro-methane-sulfonate anions and acetonitrile solvent mol-ecules are located in channels formed by the complex cations that run along the crystallographic c axis. Each counter-anion is also engaged in a C-H⋯O contact with one of the methyl-ene H atoms of a 1,2-bis-(diphenyl-phosphino)ethane (dppe) ligand; another C-H⋯O contact involving an aromatic H atom is also observed.

Project description:In the title salt, [Ni(C12H14N6O)2](CF3SO3)2·2H2O, the Ni(II) cation is located on an inversion centre and is coordinated by six N atoms from two tridentate 1-meth-oxy-2,2,2-tris-(pyrazol-1-yl)ethane ligands in a distorted octa-hedral geometry. The Ni-N distances range from 2.0594 (12) to 2.0664 (12) Å, intra-ligand N-Ni-N angles range from 84.59 (5) to 86.06 (5)°, and adjacent inter-ligand N-Ni-N angles range between 93.94 (5) and 95.41 (5)°. In the crystal, inversion-related pyrazole rings are π-π stacked, with an inter-planar spacing of 3.4494 (18) Å, forming chains that propagate parallel to the a-axis direction. Inter-molecular O-H⋯O hydrogen bonds are present between water mol-ecules and tri-fluoro-methane-sulfonate anions.

The Ni(II) ion is situated on an inversion centre. The Ni-N distances range from 2.0589 (19) to 2.0757 (19) Å, intra-ligand N-Ni-N angles range from 84.50 (8) to 85.15 (8)°, and adjacent inter-ligand N-Ni-N angles range between 94.85 (8) and 95.50 (8)°. In the crystal, O-H⋯O hydrogen bonds between methanol solvent mol-ecules and tri-fluoro-methane-sulfonate anions are observed.

Project description:The title mol-ecular salt, C17H30NSi+·C2H5O4S-, belongs to the class of a-amino-silanes and was synthesized by the alkyl-ation of 1-[(benzyl-dimethyl-sil-yl)meth-yl]piperidine using diethyl sulfate. This achiral salt crystallizes in the chiral space group P21. One of the Si-C bonds in the cation is unusually long [1.9075 (12) Å], which correlates with the adjacent quaternary N+ atom and was verified by quantum chemical calculations. In the crystal, the components are linked by weak C-H⋯O hydrogen bonds: a Hirshfeld surface analysis was performed to further investigate these inter-molecular inter-actions and their effects on the crystal packing.
