Catena-Poly[diaqua-(cis-cyclo-hexane-1,2-dicarboxyl-ato)cadmium].

ABSTRACT: In the title polymer, [Cd(C(8)H(10)O(4))(H(2)O)(2)](n), the Cd(II) cation is coordinated by five carboxyl-ate O atoms from three different cyclo-hexane-1,2-dicarboxyl-ate anions and two O atoms from two water mol-ecules, displaying a distorted CdO(7) pentagonal-bipyramidal geometry. Each anion acts as a ?(3)-bridge, linking symmetry-related Cd(II) ions into a layer parallel to (010). In the crystal, numerous O-H?O and C-H?O hydrogen bonds occur. The coordinated water mol-ecules and carboxyl-ate O atoms act as donors or acceptors in the formation of these hydrogen-bonding inter-actions.

Water-water and water-carboxyl O-H?O hydrogen bonds stabilize these chain structures and provide inter-chain links, resulting in a two-dimensional layered structure extending parallel to (100).

One of the two independent Mn atoms is seven-coordinate, binding to five carboxyl-ate O atoms from different chdc ligands and two phenanthrene N atoms from a dipyrido[3,2-a:2',3'-c]phenazine (L) ligand, while the second Mn atom is six-coordinate, binding to six carboxyl-ate O atoms from different chdc ligands. The cis-chdc ligands bridge the trinuclear Mn(II) clusters, forming chains, which are further linked into a three-dimensional network.

The Fe(II) ion has a distorted octa-hedral coordination environment, with two N and two O atoms from the pyrazine-2,3-dicarboxyl-ate ligands in the equatorial plane and with two water mol-ecules in axial positions. The Fe atom lies on a crystallographic centre of symmetry and a twofold rotation axis passes through the pyrazine ring.
