Ethyl 2-methyl-4-phenyl-pyrido[1,2-a]benzimidazole-3-carboxyl-ate.

ABSTRACT: The title compound, C(21)H(18)N(2)O(2), was synthesized using a novel tandem annulation reaction between (1H-benzimidazol-2-yl)(phen-yl)methanone and (E)-ethyl 4-bromo-but-2-enoate under mild conditions. The dihedral angles between the mean planes of the five-membered imidazole ring and the pyridine, benzene and phenyl rings are 0.45?(6), 1.69?(1) and 70.96?(8)°, respectively. In the crystal, mol-ecules are linked through inter-molecular C-H?N hydrogen bonds.

In the crystal, mol-ecules are connected by C-H⋯N and C-H⋯O inter-actions, forming a layer parallel to the bc plane. A π-π inter-action, with a centroid-centroid distance of 3.656 (1) Å, is observed in the layer.

Project description:In the mol-ecule of the title compound, C(19)H(17)NO(2), the quinoline ring system is planar [maximum deviation 0.021 (3) Å] and oriented with respect to the phenyl ring at a dihedral angle of 80.44 (4)°. Intra-molecular C-H⋯O inter-actions result in the formation of five- and six-membered rings having planar and envelope conformations, respectively. In the crystal structure, inter-molecular C-H⋯O inter-actions link the mol-ecules into centrosymmetric dimers forming R(2) (2)(12) ring motifs. π-π contacts between the rings of the quinoline system [centroid-to-centroid distance = 3.812 (1) Å] may further stabilize the structure. Project description:The title compound, C(11)H(12)N(2)O(2), was synthesized from the reaction of 6-methyl-pyridin-2-amine and ethyl 3-bromo-2-oxopropionate. In the mol-ecular structure, the six- and five-membered rings are individually almost planar with r.m.s. deviations of 0.003 and 0.002?Å, respectively. The two rings are almost coplanar, the dihedral angle between their planes being 1.4?(3)°. Inter-molecular C-H?O and C-H?N hydrogen bonds are present in the crystal structure.

In each one, the benzimidazole ring system is essentially planar, with maximum deviations of 0.027?(1) and 0.032?(1)Å, and makes dihedral angles of 38.64?(6) and 41.48?(6)°, respectively, with the attached benzene rings. An intra-molecular C-H?O hydrogen bond is observed in each mol-ecule. The two independent mol-ecules are connected into a dimer by two inter-molecular O-H?N hydrogen bonds. In the crystal, mol-ecules form a two-dimensional layers parallel to (012) via weak inter-molecular C-H?O hydrogen bonds. In addition, weak ?-? stacking inter-actions are observed with centroid-centroid distances of 3.5244?(12) and 3.6189?(12)?Å.
