4-Methyl-phenyl 4-bromo-benzoate.

ABSTRACT: In the title compound, C(14)H(11)BrO(2), an ester formed from the reaction of 4-methyl-phenol with 4-bromo-benzoyl-chloride, the dihedral angle between the benzene rings is 54.43?(7)°, indicating a twist in the mol-ecule. In the crystal, weak C-H?O inter-actions link the mol-ecules into supra-molecular layers in the bc plane, and these are connected along the a axis by Br?Br contacts [3.6328?(5)?Å].

Project description:The structure of the title compound (4BPBA), C(13)H(9)BrO(2), is similar to that of phenyl benzoate (PBA), 4-methyl-phenyl benzoate (4MePBA) and 4-methoxy-phenyl benzoate, with somewhat different bond parameters. The dihedral angle between the phenyl and benzoyl rings in 4BPBA is 58.43 (17)°, compared with values of 55.7° in PBA and 60.17 (7)° in 4MPBA. The mol-ecules in the title compound are packed into infinite chains in the a-axis direction.

Project description:The structure of the title compound, C(14)H(12)O(2), resembles those of phenyl benzoate and 4-methyl-phenyl benzoate, with similar bond parameters. The two aromatic rings make a dihedral angle of 76.0?(1)°. The plane of the central -C(=O)-O- group is twisted by 9.4?(2)° out of the plane of the benzoyl ring, and by 83.3?(1)° out of the plane of the phenyl ring. The crystal structure exhibits weak parallel stacking of the benzoyl rings, with an inter-planar distance of 3.65?Å and an offset of 1.84?Å. The methyl group shows orientational disorder.

Project description:The conformation of the C=O bond in the title compound 2MP4MBA, C(15)H(14)O(2), is anti to the ortho-methyl group in the phen-oxy ring. The bond parameters in 2MP4MBA are similar to those in 3-methyl-phenyl 4-methyl-benzoate (3MP4MBA), 4-methyl-phenyl 4-methyl-benzoate (4MP4MBA) and other aryl benzoates. The dihedral angle between the two aromatic rings in 2MP4MBA is 73.04 (8)°.

Additional C-H?O hydrogen bonds generate R2(1)(6) ring motifs and stack these dimers along the b axis. Short inter-molecular Br?O contacts of 3.254?(3)?Å are also observed and link the stacks into a three-dimensional network.

Project description:The title crystals, C9H5Br2NO2, are the first reported 2,6-dihalophenyl cyanide-isocyanide pair that have neither three- nor two-dimensional isomorphism. Both crystals contain contacts between the carbonyl O atom and a Br atom. In the crystal of the cyanide, R22(10) inversion dimers form based on C≡N⋯Br contacts, a common packing feature in this series of crystals. In the isocyanide, the corresponding N≡C⋯Br contacts are not observed. Instead, the iso-cyano C atom forms contacts with the meth-oxy C atom. RNC was refined as a two-component pseudo-merohedral twin.
