Tetra-gonal polymorph of 5,5-dichloro-barbituric acid.

ABSTRACT: The tetra-gonal polymorph of 5,5-dichloro-barbituric acid (m.p. 478?K), C(4)H(2)Cl(2)N(2)O(3), forms an N-H?O hydrogen-bonded tape structure along [001]. Two tapes related by a twofold rotation axis are associated via Cl?O contacts [3.201?(1)?Å], and four such chain pairs are arranged around a fourfold roto-inversion axis. The crystal structures of the monoclinic and ortho-rhom-bic polymorphs have been reported previously [Gelbrich et al. (2011 ?). CrystEngComm, 13, 5502-5509].

Project description:The asymmetric unit of the title compound,, C(4)H(4)N(2)O(5)·0.5C(4)H(8)O(2), contains one molecule of 5,5-dihydroxybarbituric acid with a nearly planar barbiturate ring and half a molecule of 1,4-dioxane. The geometry of the centrosymmetric dioxane molecule is close to an ideal chair conformation. The crystal structure exhibits a complex three-dimensional hydrogen-bonded network. Barbiturate mol-ecules are connected to one another via N-H?O=C, O-H?O=C and N-H?O(hydr-oxy) inter-actions, while the barbituric acid mol-ecule is linked to dioxane by an O-H?O contact.

Crystal structure of the tetra-gonal polymorph of bis-(1-ethyl-3-methyl-imidazolium) tetra-bromido-cadmate.

Project description:Both unique Cd atoms in the tetra-gonal polymorph of bis-(1-ethyl-3-methyl-imidazolium) tetra-bromido-cadmate, (C6H11N2)2[CdBr4], occupy special positions (site symmetry -4). The crystal structure consists of isolated tetra-hedral [CdBr4](2-) anions which are surrounded by 1-ethyl-3-methyl-imidazolium cations. The methyl and ethyl side chains of the cations show positional disorder in a 0.590 (11):0.410 (11) ratio. In the crystal, (C6H11N2)(+) cations display three weak C-H⋯Br hydrogen-bond inter-actions through the imidazolium ring H atoms with the Br(-) ligands of the surrounding complex anions. The alkyl groups of the side chains are not involved in hydrogen bonding.

A tetra-gonal polymorph of bis-[hydro-tris-(pyrazol-1-yl)borato]iron(II).

Project description:The title compound, [Fe(C(9)H(10)BN(6))(2)], is a polymorph of a compound reported previously [Oliver et al. (1980 ?). Inorg. Chem.19, 165-168]. In the previous report, the compound crystallized in the monoclinic space group P2(1)/c (Z = 4), whereas the crystal symmetry of the compound reported here is tetra-gonal (P4(2)/ncm, Z = 4). The mol-ecular structure is comprised of two hydro-tris-(1-pyrazol-yl)borate ligands (Tp(-)) and a central Fe(II) ion, which is coordinated by six pyrazole N atoms from two two Tp(-) ligands, yielding a distorted bipyramidal FeN(6) geometry. The complete molecule exhibits symmetry 2/m.

Project description:The asymmetric unit of the title compound, C(4)H(6)N(8), contains a quarter of the mol-ecule, which possesses a crystallographically imposed centre of symmetry with all non-H atoms situated on a mirror plane. The crystal packing exhibits inter-molecular N-H⋯N hydrogen bonds and π-π stacking inter-actions between the tetra-zole rings of adjacent mol-ecules [centroid-centroid distance = 3.4402 (10) Å].

Project description:The mol-ecule of buthalital, (I) [systematic name: 5-(2-methyl-prop-yl)-5-(prop-2-en-1-yl)-2-sulfanyl-idene-1,3-diazinane-4,6-dione], C11H16N2O2S, exhibits a planar pyrimidine ring, whereas the pyrimidine ring of methitural, (II) [systematic name: 5-(1-methyl-but-yl)-5-[2-(methyl-sulfan-yl)eth-yl]-2-sulfanyl-idene-1,3-diazinane-4,6-dione], C12H20N2O2S2, is slightly puckered. (I) and (II) contain the same hydrogen-bonded chain structure in which each mol-ecule is connected, via four N-H⋯O=C hydrogen bonds, to two other mol-ecules, resulting in a hydrogen-bonded chain displaying a sequence of R22(8) rings. The same type of N-H⋯O=C hydrogen-bonded chain has previously been found in several 5,5-disubstituted derivatives of barbituric acid which are chemically closely related to (I) and (II).

Project description:In the title compound, C18H10O8·4C2H6OS, the mid-point of the triple bond of the main mol-ecule is located on a special position, i.e. about an inversion center. The carboxyl groups are twisted slightly out of the planes of the aromatic rings to which they are attached, making dihedral angles of 24.89?(1) and 7.40?(2)°. The cystal packing features strong O-H?O hydrogen bonds, weaker C-H?O inter-actions and O?S contacts [3.0981?(11)?Å] and displays channel-like voids extending along the a-axis direction which contain the dimethyl sulfoxide solvent mol-ecules.

Experimental and Computational Studies on the Gas-Phase Acidity of 5,5-Dialkyl Barbituric Acids.

Project description:The gas phase acidities (GA) of 5,5-alkylbarbituric acids have been experimentally determined by electrospray ionization-triple quadrupole (ESI-TQ) mass spectrometry and by using the extended kinetic Cooks method (EKCM). The GAs of C-H (1330.9 ± 10.0 kJ mol-1) and N-H (1361.5 ± 10.5 kJ mol-1) deprotonated sites of bifunctional barbituric acid were determined from the selective production of their corresponding heterodimers. The GA value in the N-H site was confirmed by measuring the GAs of 5,5-dimethyl- and 5,5-diethyl barbituric acids (∼1368 kJ mol-1). The experimental results have been rationalized and discussed with the support of quantum chemical calculations with Gaussian-n (G3 and G4) composite methods, which confirmed the excellent consistency of the results.

Synthesis and structure of push-pull merocyanines based on barbituric and thio-barbituric acid.

Project description:Two compounds, 1,3-diethyl-5-{(2E,4E)-6-[(E)-1,3,3-tri-methyl-indolin-2-yl-idene]hexa-2,4-dien-1-yl-idene}pyrimidine-2,4,6(1H,3H,5H)-trione or TMI, C25H29N3O3, and 1,3-diethyl-2-sulfanyl-idene-5-[2-(1,3,3-tri-methyl-indolin-2-yl-idene)ethyl-idene]di-hydro-pyrimidine-4,6(1H,5H)-dione or DTB, C21H25N3O2S, have been crystallized and studied. These compounds contain the same indole derivative donor group and differ in their acceptor groups (in TMI it contains oxygen in the para position, and in DTB sulfur) and the length of the ?-bridge. In both materials, mol-ecules are packed in a herringbone manner with differences in the twist and fold angles. In both structures, the mol-ecules are connected by weak C-H?O and/or C-H?S bonds.

3,3',5,5'-Tetra-nitro-biphen-yl.

Project description:The title compound, C(12)H(6)N(4)O(8), is a biphenyl system that was synthesized as a building block for a new series of anti-malarial compounds. The aromatic rings are oriented at a dihedral angle of 45.5?(2)°, and inter-molecular short O?O contacts form a chain along the b axis. The strength of the inter-actions involved in this chain cause one of the rings to be slightly distorted, with the torsion angle between the nitro groups being 23.4?(2)°, whereas, in the other ring, both nitro systems are parallel, forming an angle of 9.6?(2)° with the plane of the aromatic ring to which they are bound. Furthermore, the three ring C atoms around the ring-ring linkage belong to a plane inclined by 4.5?(1)° in relation to the plane containing the other three C atoms, i.e. (NO(2)-)C-C-C(NO(2)). This distortion of the ring causes uncommonly short intermolecular O?O [3.038?(2)?Å] and O?C [3.000?(4) and 3.214?(1)?Å] contacts.
