Aberrant subcortical-prefrontal connectivity may contribute to insula hyper-reactivity to threat in generalized social anxiety disorder (gSAD). A novel PsychoPhysiological Interaction (PPI) analysis was used to examine functional 'coupling' between the insula and prefrontal cortex in gSAD patients and healthy controls (HCs).
