ABSTRACT: The coordination polymer [Zn(2)(C(10)H(8)O(5))(2)(H(2)O)(3)](n) adopts a layer structure in which the two independent Zn(II) ions exist in trigonal-bipyramidal coordination geometries. One carboxyl-ate dianion binds to a monoaqua-coordinated metal ion through the aliphatic carboxyl-ate end and to the diaqua-coordinated metal ion through the aromatic carboxyl-ate end; the other dianion binds in the reverse manner. Three of the four carboxyl-ate ends of the two dianions are also engaged in bridging inter-actions; these lead to a layer structure parallel to (100). Adjacent layers are linked by O-H(water)⋯O hydrogen bonds into a three-dimensional network.

The uncoordinated hydr-oxy groups of the 2-hydr-oxy-2-methyl-propionate ions inter-act with the O atom of the uranyl and with the coordinated hydr-oxy group of an adjacent 2-hydr-oxy-2-methyl-propionate ion through O-H⋯O hydrogen bonds.

Project description:In the centrosymmetric binuclear title complex, [Pr(2)(C(9)H(9)O(3))(6)(C(12)H(8)N(2))(2)], the two Pr(III) ions are linked by four 2-phen-oxy-propionate (L) groups through their bi- and tridentate bridging modes. Each Pr(III) ion is nine-coordinated by one 1,10-phenanthroline mol-ecule, one bidentate carboxyl-ate group and four bridging carboxyl-ate groups in a distorted PrN(2)O(7) monocapped square-anti-prismatic geometry. The title compound is isotypic with its terbium- and dysprosium-containing analogues.

Project description:In the title coordination polymer, {[Cd(2)(C(10)H(9)O(5))(2)(C(10)H(8)N(2))(2)(C(3)H(7)NO)(2)(H(2)O)(2)](NO(3))(2)}(n), the 3-(4-carb-oxy-phen-oxy)propionate monoanion O,O'-chelates to a Cd(II) cation through the aliphatic carboxyl-ate end. One of these O atoms is also connected to the metal cation from an inversion-related metal atom. The five O atoms bonded to the metal centre form a penta-gon, above and below which are located the N atoms of the 4,4'-bipyridine mol-ecules. The polycationic ribbon propagates along the b axis of the unit cell. The (aromatic) carboxyl end of the monoanion connects adjacent ribbons into a layer motif in the (102) plane. The nitrate ions are hydrogen bonded to the layer. The geometry of the Cd(II) atom is a trans-N(2)O(5)Cd penta-gonal bipyramid.

Project description:The title compound, [Ni(SO(4))(C(5)H(5)N)(H(2)O)(3)](n), was synthesized by the hydro-thermal reaction of NiSO(4)·6H(2)O, pyridine and water. The central Ni(II) atom is coordinated in a distorted octa-hedral environment by a pyridine N atom, three aqua O atoms and two O atoms of bridging sulfate anions, yielding a zigzag chain. A three-dimensional network is generated via complex hydrogen bonds involving the sulfate and aqua ligands and a pyridine C-H group.

Project description:In the crystal structure of the title coordination polymer, {[Zn(2)(C(24)H(18)N(4)O(10))(H(2)O)(4)]·H(2)O}(n), the mol-ecular building block (MBB), viz [Zn(2)(CO(2))(4)(H(2)O)(4)], comprises two Zn(II) cations, each bridged by three carboxyl-ate groups from different ligand mol-ecules. These two Zn(II) cations exhibit different coordination environments: a distorted trigonal-pyramidal coordination, as an inter-mediate, is formed by the two coordinated water mol-ecules and three carboxyl-ate groups, and a distorted octa-hedral geometry defined by three water mol-ecules and three carboxyl-ate groups, in which two carboxyl-ate groups from the same side of the clip glycoluril ring and one water mol-ecule are bidentate bridging, whereas others are monodentate units. Every ligand mol-ecule connects four MBBs, thus forming a three-dimensional structure. Extensive intra- and inter-molecular O-H?O hydrogen bonding is observed.

The dinuclear units are linked into one-dimensional ladder-like chains along [100] by O-H⋯O hydrogen bonds between the coordinated water mol-ecules and one of the O atoms of the carboxyl-atomethyl group.

The chains are separated by 4,4'-bipyridine and water solvent mol-ecules. Within a chain, the Mn(II) atom is six-coordinated by two N atoms of the bridging 4,4'-bipyridine ligands, three water O atoms and one carboxyl-ate O atom of a single deprotonated 3-(4-carb-oxy-phen-oxy)phthalic acid ligand. Both coordinating and solvent 4,4'-bipyridine mol-ecules are situated on centres of inversion. An intricate network of O-H⋯O and O-H⋯N hydrogen bonds involving the carb-oxy group, the coordinating water mol-ecules and the two types of solvent mol-ecules leads to the formation of a three-dimensional network.

The structure contains one-dimensional coordination polymers in which two distinct Nd(III) atoms show different coordination modes. One is coordinated by four bidentate acrylate ligands, two of which bridge Nd(III) atoms, and by two O atoms from a further two bridging acrylate ligands. The other Nd(III) atom is coordinated by two bidentate acrylate ligands, two O atoms from bridging acrylate ligands, and three water mol-ecules. Extensive hydrogen bonding between the coordinated and uncoordin-ated water mol-ecules and the O atoms of the acrylate ligands link the coordination polymers into a three-dimensional network.
