Both rings assume an envelope conformation. The mean planes of these functional groups form a dihedral angle of 60.7?(1)°. The crystal structure exhibits weak inter-molecular C-H?O inter-actions, which link the mol-ecules into zigzag chains extended in the [010] direction. The unit cell contains a racemic mixture of enanti-omers.

Project description:The title compound, C(19)H(14)ClNO(3)·0.2H(2)O, crystallizes with five mol-ecules and a disordered water mol-ecule in the asymmetric unit. Four of the five mol-ecules form hydrogen-bonded dimers via N-H?O hydrogen bonds towards another symmetry-independent mol-ecule, whereas the fifth mol-ecule forms a hydrogen-bonded dimer with its symmetry equivalent, also via N-H?O hydrogen bonds. The dihedral angle between the planes of the fused benzene ring and the five-membered ring to which it is attached is 79.45?(13), 49.00?(15), 72.49?(16), 81.91?(18) and 76.38?(16)° for the five mol-ecules in the asymmetric unit.

Project description:In the title compound, C21H21NO5, obtained from a Morita-Baylis-Hillman adduct, the hydrogenated five-membered ring adopts a shallow envelope conformation, with the C atom bearing the carb-oxy-lic acid substituent deviating by 0.237 (1) Å from the mean plane of the other four atoms (r.m.s. deviation = 0.007 Å). The dihedral angle between the fused ring system (all atoms; r.m.s. deviation = 0.057 Å) and the pendant trimeth-oxy benzene ring is 66.65 (3)°. The C atoms of the meta-meth-oxy groups lie close to the plane of the benzene ring [deviations = 0.052 (1) and -0.083 (1) Å], whereas the C atom of the para-meth-oxy group is significantly displaced [deviation = -1.289 (1) Å]. In the crystal, carb-oxy-lic acid inversion dimers generate R 2 (2)(8) loops. The dimers are connected by N-H⋯O hydrogen bonds, forming [011] chains. A C-H⋯O inter-action is also observed.

Project description:The lattice of 5,7,12,14-tetra-hydro-5,14:7,12-bis-([1,2]benzeno)-penta-cene-6,13-dione, C34H20O2, at 173 K has triclinic (P-1) symmetry and crystallizes with four independent half-mol-ecules in the asymmetric unit. Each mol-ecule is generated from a C17H10O substructure through an inversion center at the centroid of the central quinone ring, generating a wide H-shaped mol-ecule, with a dihedral angle between the mean planes of the terminal benzene rings in each of the two symmetry-related pairs over the four mol-ecules of 68.6 (1) (A), 65.5 (4) (B), 62.3 (9) (C), and 65.8 (8)° (D), an average of 65.6 (1)°. This compound has applications in gas-separation membranes constructed from polymers of intrinsic microporosity (PIM). The title compound is a product of a double Diels-Alder reaction between anthracene and p-benzo-quinone followed by de-hydrogenation. It has also been characterized by cyclic voltammetry and rotating disc electrode polarography, FT-IR, high resolution mass spectrometry, elemental analysis, and 1H NMR.
