2-Amino-3-(hy-droxy-meth-yl)pyridinium 2-benzoyl-benzoate monohydrate.

ABSTRACT: In the title hydrated salt, C(6)H(9)N(2)O(+)·C(14)H(9)O(3) (-)·H(2)O, the dihedral angle between the benzene rings of the 2-benzoyl-benzoate anion is 82.04?(14)°, while the angles between the aromatic ring of the pyridinium cation and each of the benzene rings of the anion are 4.42?(14) and 82.04?(14)°. In the crystal, mol-ecules are linked by N-H?O and O-H?O hydrogen bonds, generating a three-dimensional network with R(2) (2)(8), R(6) (6)(16) and R(4) (4)(6) motifs. The crystal packing is further stabilized by two ?-? inter-actions, one between pyridinium rings, and another between the benzene benzoate and pyridinium rings of neighbouring mol-ecules, with centroid-to-centroid distances of 3.559?(2) and 3.606?(2)?Å, respectively.

Project description:In the salicylate anion of the title salt, C(5)H(7)N(2) (+)·C(7)H(5)O(3) (-), an intra-molecular O-H?O hydrogen bond generating an S(6) ring motif is observed. In the crystal structure, the cations and anions are linked into a two-dimensional network parallel to the ab plane by N-H?O and C-H?O hydrogen bonds. The network contains R(2) (2)(7) and R(1) (2)(4) ring motifs. Weak ?-? inter-actions between the benzene and pyridinium rings [centroid-centroid distance = 3.688?(1)?Å] are also observed.

Project description:The title compound, C(13)H(13)N(2)O(+)·Cl(-), (1), was obtained as a colorless crystalline by-product during the synthesis of N-(2-pyridylmeth-yl)benzoyl-amine (2). The C-O bond length of 1.231 (2) Å in the benzoyl unit of (1) is slightly elongated in comparison with isolated C=O double bonds as also observed for (2) [1.237 (2) Å]. The N-C bond length of 1.345 (2) Å in the benzoic acid amide unit indicates the formation of an allylic O-C-N system and is very similar to the N-C bond lengths [1.345 (2) Å] of the pyridyl group. A further delocalization of charge from this allylic system into the phenyl fragment does not occur, which can be deduced from a characterisitc C-C single bond length of 1.499 (2) Å between these fragments. A dimer is formed via N-H⋯Cl hydrogen bonds. The two rings make a dihedral angle of 105.0 (2)°

A ?-? stacking inter-action [centroid-centroid-distance = 3.740?(2)?Å] is also observed.

Both the salicylate anions contain an intra-molecular O-H?O hydrogen bond, which generates an S(6) ring. Both the 2-amino-4-methyl-pyridine mol-ecules are protonated at their pyridine N atoms. In the crystal, both cations form two N-H?O hydrogen bonds to their adjacent anions, forming ion pairs. Further N-H?O links generate sheets lying parallel to the ab plane. In addition, weak C-H?O bonds and aromatic ?-? stacking inter-actions [centroid-centroid distances = 3.5691?(9) and 3.6215?(9)?Å] are observed between the cations and anions.
